So, today is day 10 post op andt my pain from having the surgery is just about gone, but I am achy all over, my legs ache, my arms ache - I am wondering if its because of the rapid weight loss, I lost 36 pounds pre op and have lost 17 pounds post op so far -

I also like most of the women here started my period 3 days post op and still have not stopped, and its not light bleeding, it feels like its never going to stop... that is draining me -

Yesterday I woke up feeling pretty good, I was able to fold laundry, clean up the kitchen, which is more then I have been able to do since surgery - I was even able to take a pretty long walk last night that made me feel good - today, I am not sure if I have the energy to do even that...

I am sure that this is all part of the process, but I feel like I am just dragging and having a hard time getting my energy back and feeling "normal" again...

Other then that, I am happy with my decision, I would not change it for the world, just need to know that this too shall pass lol

Thanks all for listening

Thanks for posting an update Michelle. My surgery is next Tues. and since I have my own biz plus three kids under age of 7, I appreciate an idea of how long to anticipate being out. Hang in there..it seems that everyone says the first couple of weeks are tough. You are on your way already...and that is a great thing. My journey has not yet begun. I am thinking of you as 53 lbs lighter and getting healthier every moment. Smiles, Joan

Michelle,

Wow, first of all congrats on the 17lbs. That is awesome.

Ditto on the energy thing and TOM. Day 8 was good for me but I completely ran out of engery last night.

We will get there.

Wow Michelle!!! Way to go - you are doing awesome! The lack of energy hit me pretty good after my WLS too.. something about it but at 3 weeks post op I had less energy that I did at 1 week... My doc kept telling me to hang in there, keep plugging along and as I ate more "real" food my energy would come back. It did, Doc was right as usual! I totally agree it is not a show stopper, and I would not change what I did at all, so very happy for the option of WLS.

Just wanted to say congrats - you have an awesome weight loss so far!!!

Thanks!

I am glad I am not the only one having the energy issues and the TOM - UGH I am about over that for sure! LOL

We will get there, one step at a time :D

Thanks for the encouragement Michelle!! It did not scare me...just gives me a realistic point of view. I tend to be a bit overly optimistic and then can be disappointed sometimes. I am a Physical Therapist...so on the medical side I get it, but it is another world to be the patient!! Lol. I appreciate you and will post more as it gets closer. I have crazy emotional days and pretty much want to go to the movies all day long it sleep!!! Hmmm....avoidance strategies maybe? Keep posting your progress...I'm looking forward to "I feel great!" So I will know how long that takes. Living vicariously thru u, Joan :)

Hi Babe!

I woke up today feeling like someone came in and beat me up last night. No reason why! I think it is part and parcel of this journey.

I didn't realize you've lost 17 pounds since surgery- wow that s awesome! But think about that- really- what that means to your body. That is terribly taxing to happen all at once!

I don't know how hormones work with TOM exactly but I know hormones come flooding out of the fat cells as they burn and I'm prepared (sorta) for depression as a side effect but imagine that bleeding has to be part of it too.

Are you off right now or do you have things you have to do? If you are free just relax! Watch movies, rest, (TCM is our fave), take slow walks enjoying the flowers that are abundant right now.

I am talking to myself too- I am frustrated by my energy and hoping adding some carb foods as I have the past few days will help me- and so far a little bit , it has.

I am frankly mystified, even with the little amount I am eating, that I have now lost almost 10 since the surgery- only because I am doing NOTHING- hardly even walking. It seems bizarre, this process!

Know your sleeve sistah is here for you and well always be RV connected!

Hi Michelle, I am 14 days out today. Just a couple a head of you. I have only lost 4 lbs due to the ugly stall, but I also had the day three surprise of an extra period. I feel like I should be fully operational, because I have no pain. However, I am not. I slept all day yesterday and I could not help it. My sweet children kept asking if I was sick...and I am not, just really tired all day. I push it when I have too, but other wise I just rest. I feel guilty because my husband worked so hard all day long to find my sleeping, but it's the best I can do. Everybody tells me it gets better. I am usually not a lazy person, but that is how I feel. So, you are not alone. At least we are lucky enough to get to rest when we need. Lol

Thanks all, I am glad that what I am going through is just par for the course - fortunatly I am off of work for 3 weeks, so if i need to just do nothing, thats just what I do... lol

I do have to say that today as far as the pain goes from having surgery, its almost (not quite all ) but almost all gone! YAY!!! :)

I am sure once I get to the mushy stage of eating that I will start to have more energy... at least I am hoping :)

I will keep everyone posted and try to be as candid as possible :)

Hang in there, Michelle.....you are doing awesome!! I had my vsg on May 10, and my first day back to work was on May 17. I felt pretty good except for a bit of back pain (this was due to my sitting and standing a bit stiffly while I'm healing up), and around 1:30 I would really feel my energy start to drain. By the time I got home at 5:30pm I could have easily crawled into bed and fell asleep for the rest of the night. Every day has gotten better though, and while I still tend to get a lil sleepy earlier than normal, I am making it through my days with no other issues.

Best of wishes to you and keeping you in my prayers!

Robin

Good morning...

I am basically a lurker, in the process, but still 3-4 months out. I have two nutrition classes left before meeting the surgeon, then approval, then surgeon again. etc. I wanted to know what you do for work and your age. Ultimately I would like to return to work in one week, but not sure I can do it. .. Thanks, Brenda

Tomorrow will be one week since my surgery and I have been very concerned with total lack of energy which seems to get a little worse each day! I had seen posts before my surgery that most folks felt like going back to work after one week. My doc said 2 weeks and that some people with desk jobs feel good enough to go back to work after 1 week. I am so grateful that I told my employer that I would be off for 2 weeks; there is no way I could go back to work tomorrow! My pain is pretty much gone, still lets me know when I move too quickly and when I first stand up, but certainly tolerable. I only take my pain med when I go to bed and that is mostly to aid in sleep! I have had a hysterectomy so I don't have the period issues, however, I feel for you, I imagine that makes the energy level even worse! I was really concerned about the energy issue and was going to call the nutritionist tomorrow. I am trying to address it by increasing the protien levels, still not up to the 60 grams but getting close. But when I counted my calories today which is by far more than any other day, it still totals less than 400 calories! That is amazing to me! How can we not be weak? This morning it took me about 3 hrs to shower, hair, makeup and clothes! I kept having to rest! I think I need to get my calories up, but how? Any input on how many calories you were getting at this point and how to get energy level up in liquid phase. Thanks for everyones responses, they are so helpful for all of us even if we don't post on each thread!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
