I'm having surgery PROBABLY next month. For some reason I'm eating every SINGLE thing that crosses my mind. Its getting ridiculous. It's like Last Supper X 10. Did anyone else do this? My surgeon doesn't require for me to loose a certain amount before surgery but would be happy if I lost around 10. I also need to exercise. I'd like to loose around 20lbs and be able to walk a mile easily before surgery, so maybe the post op won't be so hard. What's funny (or not) is before I met with the surgeon I really didn't eat much at one time..I was a snacker. But now I'm having pretty big meals. Its like with each meal I'm saying goodbye to it. I know I'll be able to eat again. Has anyone gone through something like this?

Yes, I did what you are describing. I had a "last meal" with all my favorite foods and indulged all my bad eating habits at least once in the months I was waiting to get approved for surgery. I was very conscious of what I was doing - and laughed at myself for doing it - but did it anyway.

Yes I had a food funeral for a week before my surgery. I ate everything that was my favorite food and lots of it!! Seriously ordered 2 orders of my favorite Thai noodles with the intention of eating one for lunch and one for dinner. Nope I was grieving and needed them both at one sitting!

My surgery is scheduled for June 22. I am also having food funerals, just a few small things. I am preoccupied with wanting a slice of pizza, a sonic burger, ice cream, but I don't indulge, just talk a lot about it. I am not really eating that much now, gearing up for the liquid part I think., I just know that come 2 weeks before surgery, the pre op diet starts and that will mean I can no longer have some of my favorites. It really is mind over matter. My husband said to me "you are not eating those things now, so you will not miss them after". He is very supportive, BTW.

I am still new to the site, trying to find my way around.

I had food funerals for a month... Fast food and all things I love... My surgeon didn't ask me to go on liquid diet either... I guess I just needed to say goodbye to my old life...

I have been having food funerals since I had my first appointment with the surgeon back in February!!!! It is getting ridiculous now. I was just ready to post yesterday, something like.....I gained nearly 25 LBS PRE-OP, NO JOKE instead of losing weight, Does this mean theres no hope for me??? Then I got a call from my surgeons office telling me they've postponed my surgery till July now cause im having multiple surgeries, and the surgeons cannot coordinate their time together, but yessss I have been eating everything and anything I can and cannot get my hands on, and things that I normally don't eat!!!! I feel like this is the veryyyyy biggest thing of my entire life, and im eating like I will never eat again! Only last night, I didn't sleep a wink, cause my sugar was 500 and rapidly going up and down so I was so scared to close my eyes, YET....U SHOULD SEE ME NOW....IM LITERALLY SITTING HERE HAVING AN EGG BEATERS OMELETTE (THE WHOLE PINT) AND TWO chicken HOT DOGS FOR BREAKFAST!!!! THIS IS MY DIET LOL IT'S NOT FUNNY, I KNOW...AND MY SISTER WHO HAS HAD THE GASTRIC BYPASS 5 YRS AGO SAYS "IT'S ALL IN THE HEAD, AND NOTHING MORE" Anyway, good luck to u. Eventually we WILL get it together. A lot of people have food funerals b4. I dont require pre-op dieting either, but when it comes closer to the time, we will just do it and that will be it!!! and no sooner be sleeved. Keep in touch Good luck to u :):):)

Yup, did that for the two weeks prior to my pre op diet. It was scary! But I don't regret it. It was almost like saying goodbye to old frenemy's. Think about it, these foods have been there for you for most of your life and now you are cutting them off or out depending on how you look at it. I think its absolutely normal to do this. Good luck!

I wish I had a food funeral lollaugh.gif It's as if I almost regret not having some of my favorite foods.

I wish I had my favorite Pasta dish, pizza, burrito bowl from Chipotle and other favorite mexican dishes that I LOVE!!!! But I was too busy to even attempt to grab something and eat. I think it's a good "goodbye" if you will, nothing wrong with that, but don't go too crazy wink.gif

I have been thinking of making a list of things I tend to think I won't be eating after surgery and the week before my pre-op having the top 5 things on my list. I am doing WW right now so I don't want to be bad now!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
