Good job, Molly! I'm sure that was a lot of hard work! I'm glad to hear you're back where you need to be with your restriction.

I am really trying to lose pre-band for just the reasons mentioned, I hope it will make it easier to adjust to eating post-band. I've been trying to use baby utensils, taking small bites, eating Protein first, not drinking with meals (the second hardest thing) and chewing, chewing, chewing (the very hardest thing to do, I can't stand the mushy warm texture of food when it is chewed to a pulp).

I also figure if I don't stick to the pre-op diet 100% (which is intended to not only shrink your liver, but to jump-start your weight loss), I've had a great loss and my liver should be shrunk some already.

I just want the scale to move again. I'm hoping that with the warmer weather and working outside more, that it will.

And hey, for the past month I did *lose* three pounds, not gain, right?

Congratulations, Tammy! You'll be zooming into wonderland before you know it. I lost 1/2 pound this week but only count full pounds so I'm leaving my stats as is. Tomorrow, I get my 8th (and hopefully final) dose of weekly intravenous Iron. It appears I don't absorb iron and my levels were so low that I had to get it IV.

Cheers to all the losers this week.

Faith, I am positive your liver is nicely shrunken, in a healthy way of course ;)

As for adjusting to the chewing, for me I didn't have to work on it at all, it just sort of happened. Maybe I'm strange but I am beginning to wonder if maybe my body hates PB'ing so I just don't but honestly I think I've had a total of 3 and like maybe as many as a dozen sliming sessions. I know what you mean about how things taste when chewed to mush, it will affect what foods you choose to eat post band believe me. The good news is that because we are eating so little we can afford for those things to be a little higher in calories which helps with the taste a lot.

That is really good to know, thank you!

Some of my favorites now that I know will be a challenge post-band are Sushi (NOT Sashimi, I love the vinegared sticky rice), but not raw, I like the vegetarian and the crab rolls, salads galore, nuts, chicken, steak, falafel. But I'm up to the challenge!

Faith, nuts tastes OK when chewed to mush, kinda like eating crunchy peanut butter.:DI stopped eating beef about 2 months ago but sometimes I ended up spitting it out, and sometimes chicken too. Smaller bites really helps too, which you are already doing.

So you didn't have to do the optifast:eek:, that's great:D

Rice I can do in small amounts, so you should be able to still do a piece of sushi even with decent restriction. I find that even the no no food like bread and rice you can still do in really tiny amounts, like one bite. Just don't make it your first bite, lol. Nuts sometimes are uncomfortable, chew them well and it'll be fine :D Salads are a challenge for some people, when I was too tight I couldn't do salads at all, but normally I can. The nice thing about starting out unfilled and slowly reaching good restriction is that it alows you to learn as you go. Kind of like a tricycle to a bike with trainers to a full fledge bike then a ten speed, lol. You will get to where you know exactly what your band and stomach can handle. Beef I have to chew for so long it just isn't worth it to me anymore, but I do like the low fat canned roast beef from costco, yum :) chicken needs to be really tender, all 3 of my PB's were on a piece of chicken! I don't know what falafel is so can't help ya there ;)

Have a great day everyone!!!

Okay, I'm down 2lbs, which means that I've lost a total of 10 since this challenge has started. I'm trying to encourage myself that way. It seems like I'm not losing fast enough, and I want to complain about it...but then I remember that I AM losing. I also think I'm wide open. Okay, in reality, I'm not WIDE open, but I can and unfortunately do eat more then I should be able to. I'm no where near what I use to be able to eat in one sitting or even all day, but it is more then I think I should in one sitting. I also think I'm not eating enough solid foods. For instance, and I know that I have to stop this, I've started eating Cereal for Breakfast. The thought of Protein drinks completely turns me off...and makes me THINK I'm still hungry. However, with the milk, the Cereal just slides on through and I'm hungry again in a short time period. However, while I've yet to slime or have a PB, I have noticed that I have first bite syndrome with Breakfast. A little bit of liquid goes along way towards relieving that though. Then by lunch time, everything goes down without a problem. I can even guzzle Water. bread, I am noticing - not that I eat alot of it, or even try - fills me up quickly. One or two bites, and whatever else I was eating along with it I can give up on. But salads go down like Water. Unfortunately, they are also my downfall. Any suggestions are extremely welcomed (Yes, I do know I need a fill...just was trying to drag it out until after my trip at the end of June. But the way things have been going lately, I don't know if I'll make it...).

I'm glad everyone else, for the most part, is getting back on track. For those who are plateuing, I completely understand. I'm starting to notice that I'm like that right after my TOM...which is weird...

Tann: Thanks for the advice! I do appreciate all I can get. For my official pre-op diet I'm to do something that may even be worse than Optifast, it's a totally liquid diet for two weeks (both pre-op and post-op) from a company called BetterMD.net. It includes shakes, puddings and Soups...ugh.

Molly: Thanks!

Inner Me: congrats on the 10lbs!

Chris, first of congrats on the 10lb loss :) I have noticed that cereal with milk makes my first bite syndrome far worse and can even get me sliming a little bit. When I choose to have cereal I eat it dry. Try drinking sf hot cocoa first then munching on some dry sereal it fills you up fast and is pretty easy to eat. As for salads ye they do seem to go down like Water :) try to limit your salads to only include free foods (raw veggies) and stick to ff low cal dressings. I like the kraft free italian, it is almost calorie free and totally fat free.

Catching up....

Tammy! Congrats on the loss! You are definately headed for a first place finish. :first: Great work!!

Chris two pounds gone is two pounds gone!!! Keep it up! I was surprised when I did a weight loss calculator and I only had to lose two pounds a week to meet my goal by next July. Now if I can just get those two pounds to stay off ...lol I'm on the longest plateau but I too, will remind myself of my accomplishments to date. That's what matters. My everyday bfast food is oatmeal. Fills me up and holds me till lunch. I make it with milk and will even add dry milk to it to add to the Protein count.

Christine! You are a true inspiration so keep up the great work! Those threes will be gone soon, trust me!

Nicole..aka Molly :)..I hear ya on the chicken. It can be my worst enemy. I'd rather have my jaw fall off from chewing beef than risk chicken sometimes. Turkey chili with Beans is a new staple because the Protein is a high count and it's easier to eat.

Faith, keep up the great work. Half the battle is the mental game still so being aware of what you have going in will put you ahead!

Ladies, have a great weekend. I'm off to a rally in Austin where I will admit that a fair amount of my calories will be empty ones spent on adult beverages...lol I'm hoping the walking and riding will help...really, really hoping...lol :peace:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
