Anyone from Wisconsin?

Recommended Posts

Hey there fellow Cheesehead!!!!!

I'm from Milwaukee. I am leaving today for San Diego. I have elected to go to Mexico for my surgery. I will get sleeved tomorrow. Soooo looking forward to this journey. Are you an RN? Me too. Good luck with the diet. I will check back with you later. Will return to Milwaukee on Saturday. Take care.

Anyone out there have VSG with Dr. Kemmerling from Green Bay, WI? My surgery is 2 weeks from today!

Hello,

I live in Green Bay. Work in Appleton.

April 15th 2010 I was going to self-pay and have surgery with Dr. Kemmerling. The process went very fast for me and I didn't have the full support of my family so I cancelled the surgery.

I will be having the sleeve done by Dr. Georgen with Midwest Bariatric Solutions at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah Wisconsin. I now have insurance through United Health Care and they required me to go through a Center of Excellence. Unfortunatly Dr. Kemmerling is not part of a center of excellence. There are only two in Wisconsin, mine and another in Milwaukee.

I am very happy with the path that I have chosen as they require way more education and testing prior to surgery. I had to go through a 6 month supervised diet and psych eval. Those were insurance requirements. Outside of that I had to meet with the centers nutritionist and the centers psych.

I feel totally more prepared then when I was going to do this a year ago with Dr. K.

I will be having surgery on May 24th in Neenah.

I have known a feel people who have had surgery with Dr. Kemmerling (not the sleeve) and unfortunately they have not kept the weight off. I strongly suggest going to your support group meetings and working with a Nutritionist if its not something Dr. K tells you to do. They are very helpful.

Best of luck to you!

If you don't mind me asking. How many sleeves has Dr. Kemmerling performed? Last year he had only done 10 and had one complication. I am assuming it has gotten very popular since then.

I'd love to keep in touch with someone locally having the sleeve. I go to support group meetings for my center once/month and I would say 9 out of 10 people have had they Roux N Y. I have only met one sleever. Of course they have several meetings a month and I only go to the one in Appleton because its close to my work. There could be more sleevers at the other meetings.

Anyway... best of luck to you!

Hope to keep in touch! You can follow my "adventure" on You Tube!

Kara

HELLLLLOOOOO MY FELLOW WISCONSINITES!!! :D

I'm not in Wisconsin (not even close -- I'm in Asuncion, Paraguay) -- BUT I'm from Wisconsin - - got Wisconsin blood in my veins -- from Oshkosh, went to college in Waukesha, my two oldest kids live in Wisconsin (Beaver Dam and Waukesha) -- soooo, I'm there all the time (well, when I'm in the States) -- I should be visiting in June this year, so if anyone is interested in a get together, that would be cool :) (I'll be staying in Waupaca) -- (yep, I get around the state of Wisconsin )

Proof of eternal Wisconsinite"ness" from watching the Packer Bowl here in Asuncion:

Look at you supporting the Packers! Lets just hope they get to play again next year. I currently only live about 10 minutes away from Lambeau so it was quite an exciting season! We def should all start getting together and doing like an annual Wisconsinite meeting. That would be fun!

When I went for my consultation in February, Dr Kemmerling had done 27 sleeves according to the video I had to watch. He said that's been the most requested type of WLS surgery lately, so I'm sure that number grows every week. There was only the one complication you had mentioned.

I had my NUT appt last week and have my psych eval next week. Then it's just two more months of food diary until I can submit for insurance. I really hope to be sleeved in early June! smile.gif

Glad to see all the Wisconsinites on here! Paraguay and all!

Wow, it sounds like things have really advanced since I was interested in this a year ago! I'm glad for that. There was no video to watch, it was just me and Dr. K in the room for 10 minutes. They didn't even have a booklet on the VSG. :) Good luck with your progress. If you have yours in early June I will be right ahead of you!

Thanks for all the replies! I start my liguid pre-op diet tomorrow. The sleeve sounded like a good in between surgery for me. I have friends who don't loose any weight long term with the band. And too many complications with the Ru and y. This website is a life saver, I read it multiple times and day and calms my nerves regarding the surgery.

Sheila - so glad you stopped by again to give us an update. I will probably have lots of questions for you as you go through this since I hope to follow behind you in June. So it sounds like Dr K has you doing a one-week pre-op liquids diet? Is that typical for him? That's probably the part I am looking forward to the least.

I'm from Menomonee Falls and considering a band to sleeve revision in Mexico next month. Can I ask how much Dr. Kemmerling charges for self pay of the sleeve (it would give me a basis for how much the revision might cost)? I have yet to find someone local that's reasonable. Good luck to you and Thanks!!

$19,700 for self pay of the Sleeve with Dr K. How does this compare with Mexico?

One week of full liquid diet is the only requirement before the surgery. I am so excited, all the anticipation is hard.

It ranges from $5300-$11000 for the most experienced/reputable surgeons. The variances tend to be what city you go to and whether it's in a full service hospital or clinic.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
