Pre-Op Diet Energy (or lack thereof)

Recommended Posts

My surgeon has us do Protein shake for bfast, lunch, and 6oz lean meat w some leafy veggies for dinner.

I am on day 8 and the last two days have been very hard to get through with no energy.

Started at 290, already down to 278. Is there a corner to turn, or should I just count on being sluggish till mushies are over?

Well;

Don't complain, my preop 2 week diet was ALL liquid, and I did not cheat even once. At least you are eating dinner. Yes, you will be sluggish. Think, if like most of us your body is used to a lot of calories, carbs (sugar), maybe some candy and caffine. You are depriving it and body is not happy so you have lower energy. But, good news. Things will get better. Remember to suppliment with Vitamins and drink at least 64oz of Water a day.

Good luck!

My preop diet was one day - quit eating so there was no food in stomach and day of surgery to bush teeth and not swallow Water so stomach was empty.

The reason for the diet is some people need to lose fatty liver to make surgery easier. For those still thinking of getting the surgery, change you eating habits two months before - quit fatty foods then your preop diet won't be that bad.

The lack of energy is in part due to lack of carbs that give energy. Unless the doctor will let you back on them expect to get real week until about four weeks post surgery when you add things back to your diet like toast and mashed potatoes.

You can try walking and light exercise to help increase stamina and energy.

It's just the way it is unfortunately. You are basically eating nothing, you are gunna feel crappy. I am on my 2 week pre-op liquid diet phase, and it's not getting any easier the longer it goes on. Drink lots of Water, and stay rested. I would say just relax and try to nap. My biggest enemy right now is head hunger. I know I am not really starving and I really don't want to cheat but it's SO FREAKING HARD! I am crabby and snippy and just plain old mean to everyone lol

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
