Where are the 50's??? -- all I see is a topic about wrinkles! How has the surgery changed your life?

I'm right there with you tjmom. I will have surgery on Monday, May 7. Please post your progress after surgery so we can be sleeve buddies. All the best to you. I'm praying for your speedy recovery.

Tjmom, I went to surgeon today. I asked for the single incision surgery, so they moved me to another hospital to handle the surgery. And, because they moved to a different hospital, they moved my surgery date to May 8. We'll still be on the loser's bench together --- just with you blazing the trail for me!! Can't wait to hear about your surgery. And good luck too!

Artsy - I'm curious, what do you mean single incision? An open procedure? If you have a single incision that can't be done laparoscopically can it?

There is a place in Dallas that does a single incision laproscopic vertical sleeve. Sometimes they go in through the belly button so there are no scars. You can search it on Youtube and find videos about it.

Here I go. My surgery is at 11:15 am today I'm a little nervous but mostly anxious for it to be all done! I am 51 years old (stretching for 52). My doctor had me on a 2-3 week low carb diet and I did really well on that and lost 16 pounds. My liver better look fantastic! My surgery is out patient at the Puget Sound Surgery Center in Edmonds, WA. My surgeon is Dr. Billing. I love him! I did the insurance nutrition and fitness dance for six months and insurance is paying 100% and I know how fortunate I am because of that. I have loved following the posts in this group and you all have been so supportive and a source of inspiration for me! Keep up the great work everyone and I'll be sure to post updates here.

It is called single incision because all the "work" is done through a single incision in the belly button. There is one other tiny minor cut to put the instrument in which lifts the liver. Doctor said it is called SILS rather than the 4 or 5 incisions normally done for the sleeve.

1st Post-op post!!!

Surgery was Wednesday 6:30 am check in... Discharge today (Thursday) 6:00 am ....

My arthritic back, knees, hips and shoulders hurt more than my stomach... Don't get me wrong, my stomach was sore but completely tolerable....

I am so impressed with Puget Sound Surgical Center in Edmonds WA, all surgical procedures done in Edmonds WA but for the northern WA and Canadian customers, there is an office in Bellingham! Surgeons, Nutritious and staff come to Bellingham for the pre and post op appointments ...

Clear liquids yesterday and today...

protein liquids next 7 days...

Pureed foods for 7 days....

Soft and Mushy for 2 weeks .....

June 3rd regular foods (1/4 - 1/3 cup portions)....

My journey has begun and i am so excited ...

I second that from ChaCha! Yeah over 50s!!!! We rock. After all, 50 is the new 30 right?

Home now. Everything went great. Getting in my water with no problems. It feels really good with my sore throat. Discomfort is tolerable. I'm walking a little every hour. They had to fix a hiatal hernia so my chest between shoulders in front is slightly sore trying to get big breaths in. Husband is being awesome! Go back in tomorrow at 7 am to pump in more fluids. Nap time now :-)

Nite nite! Congrats you made it. I had the hiatal hernia too. Actually seems kinda common with us. Oh yeah, I remember how hard it was to take a deep breath, and had to use the incentive spirometer. Ouch. Fortunately, it doesn't last long - 2-3 days for me.
