Where are the 50s ???

Recommended Posts

Count me in, Sistas! I turned 58 on Valentine's Day. I am one week out. Other than finding that I am suddenly lonely, I feel great. I actually had no serious surgical pain. --just a wicked backache. I can't help too much with the menapause questions as I had a hysterectomy when I was 40. I kept my ovaries though, so I did get to enjoy all of the lovely hot flashes. They seemed to have calmed their hot little heads this past winter. I hope they stay calmed.

I just found this group. I am ever so happy that I did.

Valentina

Happy Birthday! I didn't know we are the same age. We will be until I turn

59 in October.

I have a new bf and life is good. I've dated a lot of interesting guys and I would have never met any of them if I hadn't lost all the weight.

I have never been as happy as I have been since I got sleeved.

Good for you! I notice more guys checking me out lately...cute guys too! I am married, but it gives my batteries a charge when a cute guy checks me out or holds the door for me or something...

I was sleeved on 2/22 of this year, so I am approaching my 4 month mark. Since I started the presurgery diet - I have lost ~ 66 pounds. I have lost from a 24W to a 16W. I've lost 6" from my waist and 7" from my bust and hips. Gotten off half my blood pressure med already. I love the sleeve!

My side effects include reflux - but easily controlled by pills; being in "puberty hell" from the hormones being released into my system from the fat cells that are disappearing; and some "brain fog" (discussed on a different thread). Well worth the issues to be losing the weight!

I'm not wrinkled to badly - but my skin is really loose. Think of a tomatoe or a peach after you have blanched it then plunged it into ice Water. Know how loose the skin on those are? That's how mine is right now. I have been bad and haven't been exercising to get it tightened back up. But, I start Zoomba/Zumba tomorrow - so that should tighten things up.

Hello to all the Nifty Fifties!!!

Maybe life starts at 56? Or it just starts over better? I am planning lots of changes besides sleeving my way to a healthier lifestyle. If losing 30 lbs can make me feel 10 years younger (no huff & puff, no swollen ankles and feet, and walking is soooo much easier) -- I figure I may be a mere child when I reach my goal!

Even if I wind up having to tuck my boobs behind my ears when my weight works its way off -- it will be worth it! What was that Clairol, Revlon, Loreal hair coloring ad from the 70's???? "your not getting older; your just getting better!"

I can't wait until I'm cruising with Valentina (hear that GF???) in that convertible Mini Cooper looking for young studs who like older women with excess skin!!!

Hi everybody! I surely had some roadblocks due to fracturing an ankle playing hopscotch with my 10 yr old great niece = no exercise for a month. :( So I'm back to doing Water aerobics and finally losing a few pounds again. Getting some sun is a plus too ~ I'd rather have my fat tanned!

Sleeved on 4/26 came home from hospital and found I had gained 6 pounds! Drag and a half for sure! Down 5 pounds since 4/28. I really thought this would go faster  . But, on the plus side, no nausea, heaves, pain is under control and the swelling must have gone down really quickly because I have no problems getting in the Proteins or Water.

Hi, I was sleeved on 6/19 and weighed a couple of days later to find I was up 8 lbs. - could NOT believe it. I'm in the same boat too with no nausea & no problem getting in Proteins or Water, so I guess this is the time to be grateful for that & trust that the losses are coming:) Terri

Last two weeks I have been up and down, and up and down... Hope to get a little bit more down soon! I am eating more, between 800-1100..... leaning towards the 1000 mark... Just had my body fat measured and my resting calorie burn.... around 1500... so I should be losing a little faster....but my body has always been this way...SLOOOW to lose! Good news? I could live with this weight, even though I am still "overweight".... still working on getting more off, working out around 5 days a week. I'm at around 7 1/2 months out. Down 59 pounds plus 10 from before surgery.

How do you have your resting calorie tested? I would lobe to know what mine is now that I am at goal.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
