Lifting after surgery? I'm a mom...

Recommended Posts

My big day is 2/28. I'm in a bit of a panic because I have 3 young girls. The youngest being 11 months. I'll have help the first week but then after that I'm all on my own during the days with the girls. I'll need to carry & lift my 11 month old. She weighs 19-20lbs. I think I'll only have to lift her to put her into bed & take her out of bed for naps. That's assuming she'll cooperate for me. Anyone else out ther have to deal with a similar situation? How did you cope? Any tips or ideas?? Thanks so much!

I was told I could lift my 15 month old after a week, which was after my help left, so that was good. My Dr. said I may be sore but that it could not hurt my new stomach just by lifting a small child. Hope that helps!

I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. I got some good responses (most said between 1-3 weeks to lift her - but mine is heavier than your heaviest), but I am going to my first seminar tomorrow and I am going to ask there as well. I'll let you know what they say.

My youngest is 38 lbs and I avoided picking him up as much as possible the first couple weeks, but he's so used to it...it was hard. Especially after I could drive again and we went out in the car - as much as I tried to coax him into getting into the booster seat himself, often it was just easier to lift him into it as he'd be running the opposite way down the driveway. Not sure how old your older girls are, but maybe you could make a game of them helping you lift your little one? That may take some of the pressure off you during those times you have to lift her. Good luck!!

Your really not suppose to lift anything over 2-5lbs during the first 2-3 weeks is what my doctor told me, but after explaining to him that I'm the one that stays home with my 2 small children he bent and told me it would be ok, but to limit the amount of times I lift, and not to lift/carry just because. I am now 2 months out today and I was finally cleared to resume all activities at the gym..

I have a 30pound 3 year old that I lifted when I had to after surgery. My hubby was home for a week after my surgery so I didn't do much at all that week but after that I did.

I also have a 30 pound 3 year old and I had to lift her after my hysterectomy last July sooner than I should have, but I'm like you, after a week, I was on my own and there was no other option.

I am hoping to have more help this time around, but you just never know how things will work out. I will try my best not to lift her, but it is so hard sometimes.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
