getting protein in without protein shakes

Recommended Posts

How do you get enough (60-70 grams) Protein in a day without drinking Protein shakes. I have been drinking a lot of skim milk and I hope that is helping.

I eat eggs, cottage cheese, greek yogurt etc., but I still feel It is not enough. My hair has not started falling out (surgery was dec. 6th), but I think it will start.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

I LOVE Bari-wise Protein hot chocolate mixes. I buy them online from Diet Direct. They taste like Swiss Miss, only better. The Cinnamon flavor is my favorite. I've also gought the Wonder Slim brand, but didn't like the taste of them as much. For Breakfast I've been having one of the hot chocolates with a Bari-wise crispy Protein Bar. That gives me 30grams of Protein between the two.

For a snack, I normally eat the Premier Nutrition Protein Bars that have 30grams each. I can't stand the normal Protein drinks anymore, so I just try and get it from my foods and these products.

I still have not mastered this yet and I'm almost 3 months post-op :( I can get in my Protein without the shake if I eat a Protein Bar but it has to be one or the other! Today I had a protein bar, beef Jerky, tuna and brisket were my main sources of protein and I have a total of 78g for the day but 30 of that was the protein bar.

I have been buying liquid Protein from GNC Nutritional Centers. They come in a 4 Ounce Test Tube / Vial and have 42 grams of Protein I mix with juice

and that really boost my protein intake, not bad tasting either. I have also found them at Rite-Aid

3oz of chicken is 21 gr of Protein, tuna, eggs, cheese etc are all Protein packed foods. If you're logging your food/drink intake, it should tell you exactly how much you are getting in. If you're falling short, then picking up some protein dense foods can help without having to use shakes.

Protein will NOT save your hair. It will help with regrowth, but if you're going to lose hair, you'll lose it. There is no stopping it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there are plenty of people on here that got in 60+gr of protein immediately following surgery, and they lost more hair and for longer time period than I did and didn't ever use protein drinks, and didn't get protein in until I was nearly 2 months out via food.

My dietician put me on Biotin supplements starting 2 weeks before my surgery. She said that will help stop hair loss. I'm only 5 days post-op so I haven't seen any Hair loss yet, but we will see how I do with the Biotin. Also, Nestle Nutrition makes a whole line of stuff for bariatric patients. It's expensive, but it gives you high Protein grams without having to drink/eat too much. it's also very easy on the stomach.

So far 12 pounds gone!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
