You can tell you boss it is major surgery since you need to for time off and explain that you don't want it talked about so your going to tell everyone you are taking some vacation time. Your boss should respect that and it will keep questions off. If you tell everyone you are having major surgery and then start losing weight they are going to put two and two together.

The higher-ups aren't even supposed to ask you specifically what you're having done, but if you need to have an answer ready, you can tell them you're having a hernia repair (which is actually fairly likely, many of us did even though we didn't know the hernia was even there before surgery), or just tell them "female issues" ... that'll shut them up, quick. ;)

Ulcers and need surgery?? I love stacy's idea of hernia repair! i told my work cause they find out anyhow. . .someone always says something. . especially those folks in the time card place or those who deal with the insurances at work, they find out why your out and they tell someone and so on pretty soon everyone knows, supposed to be confidential but yeah right. . . . . so i just told it as it is. . .they eventually stop asking questions and get really jealous . . . it's funny to watch. . . good luck. . .

I just lied and said we were going on a vacation. Just a low key getaway. When you don't say much on the matter it seems people stop asking. I only took a week off so it really wasn't a big deal.

The thing is, whether you tell them you are having surgery (hernia or otherwise), or tell them you're going on vacation, they will figure out you had something done if you start losing weight after your time off. Especially since you will probably be down several pounds after the two weeks.

People are just so nosy aren't they? Actually, there will probably be a little jealously involved when you come back with your fabulous self!wink.gif

I told people I knew or was close to and they were supportive. Those people that I didn't know well I just said I was having stomach surgery...it wasn't a lie.

That's good, and true :)

Someone suggested saying you are on a doctor supervised low calorie/portion controled weight loss program. It's the truth. How about gall bladder surgery? I've heard people say they've lost weight after that. I have a friend who wasn't even overweight AT ALL who lost weight after going on Topamax as a Migraine preventive! LOL People who didn't know, "decided" she had an eating disorder. People are going to think what they're going to think when it comes down to it!

I am being sleeved on march 15 th. I wasn't going to tell co-workers either, but changed my mind after one co worker of mine left to have a "tumor" removed from her stomach and is now down like 60 lbs 4-5 months out. At lunch in the begining she would only drinking Protein Water and then she moved to shakes. Now she will eat but takes like 2-3 bites and will be done. Everyone knows she had the surgery, and it's her decision to keep it private, but it does make her seem like a liar when she flat out denies it. I didn't want to be put in that situation so I have told a select few. I know that when I start loosing the weight, the ones I didn't tell will wonder or ask and if they do I will be honest. I am not ashamed of it, and really don't care what they think. It's not their body or life so to hell with them. I am going to do what's best for me and my health. And much to my surprise the people I did tell are very supportive. I work with a bunch of workout freaks that eat right all the time, I didn't think they would support my decision. I thought they would just try to convince me that going to the gym was the only way, but they didn't. I don't know what your job is or the hours you work, but I am at work more than I am at home and you need a support system and I have found that my co workers are very supportive. You might too, if you tell them before. Either way it's your decision and you have to do what's feels right to you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
