Hi, My name is Deb I am 54 yrs old , divorced, have 4 grown children, 5 grandchildren. I have battled my weight all my life( my grandfather and father decided I should be 25 lbs by the time I was 6 months) my highest weight was 302 lbs., I now weigh 279 lbs. I have fought diabetes, kidney disease, anemia, fibromyalgia and the list goes on . I take 20 different meds daily. I no longer work, ( I was a nurse for 36 yrs) . It hurts to walk, I try to exercise and end up hurting something else. I have looked into the weight loss surgery several times but was always told it " would kill me" because of issues I already have with my esophagus. I decided to check into surgery again since I obviously can't get rid of the weight by myself. This time they told me about the vertical sleeve and feel i can have this procedure safely. I have 2 more nutrition classes, then I will see the Dr and hopefully be scheduled. My insurance doesn't cover the procedure but the Dr is sure he can prove medical necessity and get it approved. I am hoping after surgery when the weight starts coming off, I will have less pain, and my kidney disease and diabetes will improve, and be able to get rid of that darn C-Pap. My 28 yr old daughter lives with me and is also planing to have the surgery sometime after I have mine. My brother and sister had the gastric by-pass several years ago and have done very well. I know I am still a high risk even with this procedure, but I am praying to God for him to guide and protect me as I start this new journey in my life.

Welcome!! I am new to this forum and just joined 2day! I am 30 years no kids and I am trying 2 prevent those things you mentioned from happening 2 me! I think u r a very brave women! I am getting mines done in Mexico and the only reason why I even considered getting mines done is because the doctor where I had my Tt done in Mexico had the sleeve done there at the hospital and I feel like if he was able to put his trust in the surgeon there and get it done with all the other option he had then I feel safe with getting mines done as well! Goodluck:-)

I not sure if I am replying in the right spot. It was nice hearing from you. I will be having my surgery in Reading Pa., by the same surgeon that has done some of my family. I trust him entirely and know he wouldn't do it if he can't do it safely. I wondered why so many people r getting it done in Mexico. I see the Dr. 2/22 for last visit and to schedule my surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
