No cath for me! I agree with asking for antibiotics if you are getting one!

I didn't have a cath, either. Looking down the replies, it looks like more often than not, we have NOT been cathed, so hopefully you won't either!! :)

So....as my date nears, I'm getting more and more nervous about my surgery. Everyone talks about nerves, and their fears for the future after VSG. I too, have my fair share of fear; but, can I be honest? The thing that I'm most worried about is waking up and still having a catheter crammed in my chooney. I know that sounds ridiculous, but EVERY TIME I've been cathed I've wound up with a killer UTI. My body hates me (my kidneys have a tendency to act up), and I'm good for one UTI every six months as it is....seriously, it's like clockwork.

Hey just wanted to let you know if you drink cranberry juice it will help prevent the UTI. The cranberry will make your pee more acidic AND it has a chemical (think its tannins but do not quote me) coat the inside of your bladder and the bacteria can not take hold. And then they are flushed out when you pee. Just an easy preventative step for those horrible UTI's.

I was just sleeved on Monday and I did not have a cath either. I think you should just talk to the doctor. I was able to get up and go to the bathroom a couple of hours after my surgery. I was still out of it but was able to follow commands to get out of bed and go to the bathroom and make it back. Good luck - I was a bunch of nerves last week. Now I am on my way to the NEW me! You will do Great!

No catheter for me either. I had to urinate right before they wheeled me back. I was also having my period during surgery. They slapped an industrial sized maxi pad between my legs, and when I woke up, I had on these lovely little net panties holding a different industrial sized maxi pad in place.

I was bringing sexy back that day LOL ! ! !

I had a cath and they took it out post op while I was too drugged to notice. Getting my drain pulled burned a heck of a lot more than a catheter. I would have gladly felt the opposite...lol.

Oh hunny I didn't mean to scare you! I just feel like if somebody is gonna go spelunking in my candy cave they can at leastbuy me dinner first lol ;)

Hilarious! Maybe I should ask the doctor to pass me a $20 before he puts me under. :P

The magic words in a hospital are "I refuse". I refuse makes things happen. make sure you know what you are refusing to. Ask your Dr. if you can do without. If something happens they can always put it in later.

I hate Caths, I hate UITs even WORSE.

I was aslo worried about the cath, I did wind up getting one but they put in in after I was out of it and they took it out in recovery while i was still rather dopy and dident care. So it turned out to be not as big a deal as I had originaly thought. As for the UTI deffinatly talk to the dr before had to see if they can work with you.

Love that you are so honest it just makes it all seem so much less scary.

I had one and I hated it! Although the pain meds knocked me out most of the first day, so I don't remember much. When I did wake up, I BEGGED them to take it out!!! I was fine after that.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
