Hi all. Sorry for not posting sooner. LBT hasn't been e-mailing me my reminders as of late. I think it might be a bit overwhelmed with the 200+ threads I'm subscribed to.

The meeting was great sorry you missed it. I was looking to see if I spotted any of you. Next Months meeting will be on Monday April 21st. Then due to booking conflicts at the Library the May meeting will be on Monday May 12th. There were about 15 people there including one husband.

Evelas - Hoping you are feeling well today. Give us a post when you are up to it.

Thin2bme - Don't push yourself - It will get better each day.

I am home safe and sound. Things went smoothly yesterday. Heartland Spinal and Surgery Center was a great place to have this doe. Everyone was very nice and attentive and really knew what was going on! I am sore today, but glad that I have started this journey. I am having a hard time knowing how much to eat and drink. It seems even the littlest amount of liquid makes me full and a bit uncomfortable. I'm not sure I can get in all the liquid I am supposed to, but I sure will try! It is interesting for me to learn when to stop and for me to know when I am "satisfied" and not "full". Thanks for allof your warm wishes and encouragement!

Glad to see you are doing well. Take it easy and focus on small sips. Warm fluids also tend to go down better.

I don't think many of us hit our target fluids for a few days. Immediately post-op I was doing good to down a 16.9 oz bottle in a day, let alone much else on top of that. I'm wanting to think it was around day 5 or 6 that I could finish a bottle of Water. If you're getting to the point of dehydration, call. IV fluids are better than dehydration.

I started mushies today and what a treat after being on liquids the last week and a half. I had a poached egg this morning for Breakfast, then went to the doctor's office to get the staples removed. I feel 95% better since those are out. I am feeling better as each day goes by. After we left the doctor's office, we went to Taco Bell and got me an order of refried Beans, mmmmmm, delicious and I was satisifed with just the 1 bowl, I would have never believed it. Not only that for dinner tonite, I ate half a can of tuna with a little bit of light miracle whip and couldn't believe that, that small amount also satisifed me. I also hope this feeling stays with me, I don't get a fill til April 25, but I'm loving this band already.

Erika, so glad you're surgery went well and hope we can meet up at a meeting soon. I'm going to the one at SMMC tomorrow night, but I doubt that you'll be up to that one yet, but if so be sure to let me know, so we can hook up with each other.

I look forward to feeling well enough to meet up with you. It has been slow going for me. All the gas is making me feel bloated and nauseous. I hope that's normal. Any ideas as to when those feeling subside? I'm taking one day at a time.

Hi all. I am still hanging in there. Today was the first day I have felt even a little better, eventhough I woke up to a bad start. I woke up very queasy and actually threw up. I took a suppository and got someething in my stomach and have improved as the day went on. I called in to Hoehn's office and spoke with the on call doc. He said as long as I was keeping liquids down, I was ok to wait it out and call Dr. H tomorrow morning. I plan on doing that but was wondering if any of you experienced nausea and vomiting in the beginning. Today I am 5 days post op.

I tend to get queezy after anethesia for some reason. Hoehn had me on some meds to help with it and it wasn't as bad as when I had my gall-bladder out a few years earlier. But yes I did experience it as well. Good Luck try to take it easy.

Thanks, Ghost. I tend to freak out a little when I read around and find that no one else is experiencing what I am and that most others are progressing much more rapidly.

OK. I went to the office today and figured out what was happening. I was so sick that they took me right back and started helping me immediatly. There is a nurse there named Ciny who is one in a million, so sweet and so helpful. Anyway, Dr H came in and said they had fit me with the regular sized allergan band. He said that band was a better fit than the larger one, but during the surgry he did speak with Tim about it looking very tight i.e. too much fat around the stomach area! The fat needs time to melt away. It is as if I am overfilled, without the ability to get an unfil. Lucky me! Anyway, he said this doesn't happen very often and should get better as I continue to lose weight, hopefully within the next week. He gave me some better nausea medecine and some steroids to help with the swelling. So that's my story, and I hope to be feeling better soon!

Erika I am so glad you went into see Dr. H, I'm sorry to hear about the band being too tight, I guess that's one way of losing weight without a fill, lol. Sorry you're having such a rough time. Please keep us posted.

I found out today that my disability group at work approved my extended stay off of work til next Monday, April 7. I've been extremely tired and Tim told me last week it was because I don't have enough calories going in right now but when I got on "real food" I should start feeling better. Well, I'm here to tell you, "real food" is giving me a better variety of things to eat, but still I'm not getting in more than 400-600 calories in any one day and I just don't have much stamina to do anything. I'm going to make myself start walking on the treadmill tomorrow, in hopes that I will be able to build up my stamina to get some energy back before I go back to work next week.

So my saga continues! I went into the ER today b/c I felt I was close to dehydration. That was good advice Wheetsin- I am glad I went when I did. The ER doc gave me 2 bags of saline and called Dr. H, who instructed him to give me another. Then Dr H called when I got home and wants to see me again tomorrow at the surgery center to put me under again and check on the band. If, once inside, he feels like it needs to be adjusted, he will make a change. I'll keep you guys posted!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
