A few qu? Hernia, little kids, magnesium citrate...

Recommended Posts

Hi~

I have a few questions for everyone....

Does / did anyone else have a hernia that was / will be repaired during band placement?

Does anyone else have young kids? What did you tell them? Particularly 6 year old girls?

Does everyone have to drink the magnesium citrate drink the night before?

Thanks!

I did not have to take magnesium citrate, I did have a hernia but it was small and surgeon did not make a repair since it was very small. Kids are adults so that is not a problem for me.

Hi Jen,

I just found out a few minutes ago that I was definitetly approved and the surgery date will be next Tuesday. I knew more or less that I was approved but to actually hear it coming from the insurance rep and the doctors office it is finally sinking in. Now I am so nervous, it is so close. My hands are even shaking right now. I wished it could have been done this week while I was on vacation but it was not meant to be. My husband is off at scout summer camp this week anyway. I have a hiatal hernia and am so hoping it will be repaired during surgery. I have a 16 yr old girl and a 13 yr old son and I just don't know what to tell them. I haven't mentioned a word of any of this to them...no need to until I was approved I felt. I know they will not understand and will tell me I am beautiful just like I am...trained them right huh? lol... I have a cousin that had GB several years ago so they are a little familiar with WLS but not everything that entails. If anyone can offer some guidance on this I would appreciate it. I don't know what magnesium citrate is but wasn't told I needed to do or take anything. Not even a pre-op diet...but I am not complaining about that after reading about some doctors requirements!!

My twins were 18 months old and I just told them that I had an owie on my tummy. I was able to do just about everything with them, except lift them for a few weeks. I just placed a pillow on my tummy and they were able to climb into my lap.

1. no

2. I have an 8 year old and at the time 3 year old twins. I didn't tell the twins anything excpet that I had an owie on my tummy and they had to be careful. I told my 8 year old the complete truth. I stressed that if he ate a healthy diet and exercised then he wouldn't have to do anything like this when he was older.

3. Nope.

Thank you for your replies!

I guess the hernia is nothing to worry about.

Fiveholts, I think I will follow your lead and be upfront with her. And stress that she needs to be careful and eat healthy and be active to avoid following my footsteps. I also have two 3 year olds, but I don't feel the need to explain to them, LOL!

Really, no one needed to drink that stuff? I wonder why they want me to...

Magnesium Citrate will clean out your intestinal tract...I mean really clean it out...stay close to the bathroom...really close.

I didn't have to drink it, but I was on a liquid Protein diet for 2 weeks before surgery...not much in there to clean out.

I don't really understand the concept of doing this because they are nowhere near inside your intestinal tract. But I know that some American doctors do this. I would just follow your doctor's advice.

Have a great Wednesday too! Sorry you're hungry all the time, I'm pretty much the same..and I'm sick of eating the same food all the time.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
