Getting ready for surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new here. Just registered, and I am scheduled for my surgery on Dec 14. I have been thinking about WLS for 20 years. I'm 53 and the past 3-4 years have been bad for me in terms of getting around. The deciding factor for me happened this summer when I went to my nephews wedding. I live in Michigan and the wedding was in South Carolina. Although I was there I really felt like I was unable to participate. I didn't go to the beach with the others, didn't go on the tour of the area, didn't go shopping, etc.... Just kinda stayed in the house the whole week while everyone else had fun doing things. When I got home I decided this is it. and started by attending a seminar and now here we are 6 months later and I am one week and one day away. I go from being scared to death to excited. I can't wait to get my life back. There are so many things that I used to do that I don't do anymore and am really looking forward to being able to do it all again. Wish me luck and I would love to hear some success stories from anyone out there.

Thank You... Middlesister

Hi Middlesister:

I am new here too - this is my very first post. I know exactly how you feel. I too, am missing out on so much of life because of my weight. I don't have a surgery date yet but hope it will be some time in January or February. My surgeon wants me to lose 10% of my weight first, but I am otherwise ready to go. I too, have moments of horror, wondering how it will turn out... is this the right thing to do?.... But I think it will help me get my life back. Anyway, I just wanted to welcome you to this forum and wish you much success. This forum has been a wonderful place for me to come to get answers to the hundreds of questions running through my head. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and will be watching to see how you do. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
