So, I have completed my insurance required 6 months of weight monitoring and nutritional counseling, done all of my pre-op testing, both that the insurance requires and my surgeon requires. All of my paperwork was submitted on Oct. 5th.....and today I find out that my bariatric nurse (THE one person who decides if it is approved or not) is going on vacation all next week.

So please God, grant me patience, because heaven knows I need it.

My surgeon's office won't give me a "date" until I'm approved (can't say I blame them) but it is literally driving me nuts that I CANNOT place a surgery date on my calendar and PLAN MY LIFE AROUND IT. AAAARGH!

Oh, and I guess the insurance gives the nurses 15 days to approve/deny...so it's not like it's out of the "norm" as far as how long they can take to decide. At least my bariatric coordinator from my insurance company was SO nice today when she told me that the nurse would be on vaca all next week. I know this is small price to pay for going through insurance vs. self-pay, but someday I wish I was a self-pay patient just so I didn't have to jump through so many freakin hoops! (Oh and just for the record, I will be paying $$$$ some big money for this surgery, I pay $5K out of pocket and then 10% of whatever is left over after the $5K is paid.)

I just wish that I could have a date....SO FRUSTRATING!!!

Thank you feedyoureye and Mary Gordon!

This has put me in such a funk, as all along, I have picked a "week" in Oct. that would have been best for ME, and of course now looks as if I probably won't know anything until some time during that week (Oct. 18) and I just don't know if it is going to happen the way I would choose. I really don't want to do the week of Oct. 23, as that is the week before Halloween, the kids have school parties, and we have parent-teacher conferences that week (really don't want to miss that...or just send DH, I really want to be there.) So if push comes to shove then I would probably look at the first part of Nov. which I hate to keep putting it off.

I'm just READY NOW!!!

Anyway, I'm trying to be patient and trying to reframe my thinking into more positive thoughts. Hard to do but necessary! Thanks for your words of encouragement!

I understand your frustration. I was hoping for a September date and my date is in November. I can't stand the waiting and just want to get on with living my life. Hope you get your date soon. Hang in there!

I finished all my pre recs on 10/1. I called my surgeon's office today to see when everything had been filed and they told me they hadn't received the dietician's report yet. I had spoke to her last Monday and she was suppose to give it to them that day. I called her this morning and she apologized and said she had been really busy and would take it to them right now. They are in the same medical building. I know your frustration. I have decided to wait until the beginning of next year, but still want my approval and to get it scheduled so I can request off of work. Patience is a virtue that I have always struggled with. I know it will be here soon enough, but I want to know now so that I can plan.

I am sitting here completely floored. I was told that my nurse would not even get to my file until after Oct. 18th, and SHE CALLED TO APPROVE THIS AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if her vacation plans changed or she brought her work with her??? I didn't get to talk to her, she just left a message while I was dropping the girls at school to say I've been approved!

So I actually have a date...Oct. 22nd. I'm SO HAPPY!

Thanks for those of you who gave me encouragement. It is an incredibly frustrating wait

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
