My husband (mick78) comes home from Mexico after having his surgery on Friday. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a nice special gift? Maybe something you wish you would have had post op?

The girls drew their daddy a picture, but now I need some suggestions.

Thanks for any help :)

What about a journal? I found it very helpful to keep pictures, catalog my weight, make notes of thoughts/feelings/ideas - especially in the early days. It's been great to go back and review when I have those days where I feel like the progress is slow.

If he's not the "journal" type ... what about simply setting up a special place for him to hang out as he recovers? I know for me, my husband set up a tv tray, the laptop, phone, heating pad, tv remote, etc right beside the Lazy Boy Recliner. It was so nice to get up, get dressed, and sit down in "luxury".

Even though my husband is not the journal type, I think he may actually want one for this journey! Thanks for the idea!

Great ideas! The journal is good for recording success and I'll bet the girls could show him some extra attention by helping him with small things. There were also times after surgery when I just wanted to be alone and rest.

My 11 year-old daughter "measures" my waist by throwing her arms around me to give me a big hug. It's become a ritual and she always says, "Yep! You are getting smaller! I'm proud of you Mom!" It's truly better than any success I see on the scale.

Those are all such awesome ideas and you are so fabulous for thinking of him that way!

first a big hug and a kiss.....then the tennis shoes...LOL....we don't want him to think you're pressuring him.....make him feel welcomed and loved....then start the training. goodluck

My Sister (who had the surgery 18 months before me) gave me a small silver spoon and fork. I wasn't born with a silver spoon, but was happy to receive one. They help me visualize smaller bite size portions. I'm 3 months out and I still use them. I smile whenever I see them because they remind me of all of her support. Also, just be a great cheering section. We all love to hear how wonderful we're doing.

I decided on a photo album / journal type thing where he can write stuff and add his progress pictures. With a poem I wrote.

That is really sweet of you. My husband gave me two gifts the first was an Ipad but the best gift came about a week ago when I was three weeks out and finally felt comfortable enough for a little whoopie. He told me that he could feel that my body was smaller.(BG)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
