Recommended Posts

Anyone struggling on preop diet? Will you share your stories so I do not feel alone? Surgery date is 9/17. Excited but isolated.

Hi There,

I have also been struggling. You are not alone!

I've been extremely hungry and feeling weak and dizzy a lot of the time. I called the nutritionist to ask if this is normal and she never called me back :)

I guess we just have to keep reminding ourselves that this isn't for much longer. I haven't cheated yet, but I have come close... (made some microwave popcorn, then threw the whole bag straight in the bin)

Stay strong, if I can do it, so can you. Best of luck :confused1: xxx

Two Steps Back;

Thank you, thank you for the words of encouragement. Laughing at your making popcorn but throwing it away - hoping I would have your strength. I am starting fresh today. Hugs to you!

Hi guys, Yes the pre-op diet can be very challenging, but you must do it!!!! What helped me was thinking this diet is to shrink my liver, so when the surgeon retactes it out of the way of the stomach it will not be to big. My surgeon's office cautioned us if our livers were to big we probably would not be able to have the surgery. THAT WOULD SUCK!!!! So keep thinking it is to shrink your liver. so you can have the surgery. It is a mindset. YOU CAN DO IT!!! YOU WILL DO IT!!! :confused1::thumbup: I hope this helps.

I am totaly feeling your pain!!! I am on the Pre pre op diet and am finding even 1200 cal a day a strugle because I am a chef so I am surounded my food all day long and am actually required to try some of the food before it leaves my kitchen, in the past if I really like it I would turn around and get my self a plate of it now I can onlyl have that one bite and add that one bite to my cal count :'( Oh well we can do it we just have to keep in mind the final goal, But I do find that the longer you do it the easier it gets:) Good luck

Hi Wedding Planner;

I am on a liquid diet for 2 weeks. 1 of the protien packs they gave me can be made into pudding...nasty pudding I choke down. Thank you for your response. Where are you in process?

I'm with ya on the pre-op! It STINKS!!!! The first two days for me were hard! The second day was the worst, and I was on the verge of chewing my arm off!!!!!! :) By the 3rd day, I felt totally different, in a good way! I guess it took my mind a couple of days to catch up with what I was doing! Of course it doesn't help being a holiday weekend, but we gotta do it! Just think how hott we will be by Christmas!! :)

I'm praying for all of us & know we will do great!!!! :) Kim

Hi guys, Today is day 5 and I am doing very well - no cheats. A lot of credit to those of you who have talked me through the first couple of days where yes, I was cranky to say the least. Thank you!

Diet is liquid only, with a Protein bar thrown in. I am adapting since this is how I will live for a while after having surgery.

Hi OCGal. I am also a 9/17 sleever. The pre-op diet is working against me today. I was doing to well . . . .and then I started thinking about food! Such a big no-no. My mind is where the hunger is. I have to do 2 weeks of Medifast, which is 5 shakes and 1 "lean & green" meal. Thank heaven for the lean n' green. I have never been so happy to eat veggies in my life! Can you believe that 10days from now we will be on the table getting sleeved! Yippee.

Hi everyone!

Yeah, I'm on day 2! Not too bad, just finding it hard to get down 2 Protein Shakes, 64 oz of Water and a small meal! I am so full now with all of my stomach! How am I suppose to do it when I have a "pint size" tummy? I did cheat; I had one french fry and one dorito. Good luck to everyone!! :thumbup1:

I just wanted to give some encouragement because I remember being so scared thinking in the middle of my pre-op diet that if I couldn't handle the prep-op diet how the heck was I going to do post-op and I can say the post op dieting has been a lot easier on my mind. First off I was not nearly as hungry and just the recovery process made it easier to sort of forget about the food cravings. It was more like I just was excited with each new food I could eat. So don't despair just get through this and you will be getting your sleeve and moving forward with your goals!

My surg date is 9/21 and i started my 2 wk pre-op liquid diet yesterday. I'm miserable - to be quite honest. Headache, weakness, dizziness...irritability...and a sense of "i can't do this"...then i remember that i HAVE to do this...and that i will never be as fat as i am today - ever again.

It's hard, but being fat is harder. WE CAN DO THIS. One day, one Water sip, one bowl of SF Jello, one SF pop, one bowl of broth...at a time!

Day 7 - So as not to feel so alone - I have read your stories too. We are each incredible people. You and I have overcome what seemed to be impossible.

Me, no cheats although I have had so much temptation as we all face. If I am half way there do I give in to a small satisfaction for a HUGE success so close at hand? NO. Shall stay in control and will beat the hunger pains, noisy stomach, the small headaches and weakness. Now the focus is the reality of what can be with my new "tool." Truly the desire is to be healthy, vibrant and easily mobile rather than just stuffed and asking why did I do this...again? No more quick roads to happiness.

You give me strength to know I can succeed. Thank you all for your ongoing encourangement. Come soon Sept. 17th

(should I break out in song now? hehe)

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

        So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

        Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
