Greetings Everyone!

Has anyone heard of a Kaiser patient getting a revision from Band to Sleeve?

I got my band at Richmond (boo-hiss) and transferred my care to So SF. They're much much better, but I was pretty much told to make an appointment with a mortuary if I had a revision.

I'd appreciate any news. Thanks

Hi There...at this point I'm looking for information and seems like this is the place. I had a lap band from 2008 (placed by a Sutter Dr) until December 2010 when it slipped and blocked my stomach completely. Dr. Fischer at Kaiser Richmond removed my band. Fast forward a year and I have regained all my weight and it brought some friends. So here's the question...I have heard that Kaiser doesn't do revisions. However, since my band wasn't through Kaiser what are the chances of getting a sleeve now?

I've done alot of lurking and reading and it seems like the sleeve is a good way to go. Although I did lose weight with the Band I was pretty miserable the whole 2 years, so second question is for anyone who has gone from a band to the sleeve...how is it different??

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds! Vicki

Hello, I'm sorry your band didn't work out for you. I don't have any personal experience with revision, but lots of people on Obesity Help have revised to Sleeve and been very happy with it.

The only way to know if you can get a Sleeve now is to make an appt with the bariatric dept at Richmond and see what they say. Good luck!

I'm two years out next week and love my Sleevie!

Hi Vicki I'm also sorry to hear that the band didn't work out for you but congratulations for taking some initial and important steps to get control of your health.

I wouldn't rule out a revision from Kaiser. I know at South San Francisco, revisions have taken place--it just depends on your circumstances. One woman in particular wasn't going to go through with her appointment and when she did she was pleasantly surprised with an approval.

Like Lee says, make an appointment and see what happens. Wishing you all the best and welcome to VST!

David

Hello Vicki,

In my post op groups, there is a woman that had a very similiar experience. She had a band removed completely, and then had bariatric surgery done at Kiaser Richmond. She has to go through all the same classes and steps as everyone else, and had to reach a goal weight. I can't remember is she had a sleeve or bypass done though (the classes are mixed) but I can't see then approvig one and not the other surgery. Good luck!

Hi All -

I saw two different Kaiser SoSF physicians. I have a very good case for band removal and revision to VSG. They said they'd remove the band, would only do RNY not the sleeve. It felt like a threat since I am deadset against bypass (I lost a sister to the surgery).

I know there are physicians in the Kaiser Southern Region that do band to sleeve revisions. If anyone out there and give me even a glimmer of hope regarding NorCal Kaiser actually doing a revision I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Did they say why only the RNY? Maybe yours is a special circumstance?

Nope, I'm nothing special. The band interferes with equipment I wear at work - plain and simple. They know bypass works for everyone who gets it. End of story.

I wanted the sleeve originally because of my concerns regarding having a foreign object in my body, but Richmond told me they don't do the surgery (a lie obviously). I really just need to hear from someone - anyone - out there who has had the revision surgery through norcal kaiser

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
