Good news ! I finally started losing. I was starting to get worried that he would cancel my surgery. So far, I have lost 4 pounds. Weird thing is, the only thing I did differently is I changed to a different Protein Drink. It has the same amount of calories, but more Protein. Oh well, I will take it whatever the reason!!!

Hi Everyone,

I had the sleeve surgery on Oct. 20. During the surgery, Dr. Baggs saw a nodule on my liver and biopsied. it. It came back cirrhosis. Then, a few days later, I learned I had liver cancer. As a light drinker, this was shocking. My liver specialist told me that being overweight is as bad for the liver as being a heavy drinker. Hopefully, early dection will save my life. I won't know more until my CAT scan results for Monday's tests are back.

Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Karen

Karen,

I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Thank goodness Dr. Baggs noticed something unusual on your liver and had it tested. If you hadn't had surgery this might have gone undetected for some time. I can't imagine having to deal with this news along with just having had surgery. You are a very strong person and will get through this. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hello all!

I first attended orientation at Richmond in May of 2009. Dr Fisher wanted me to lose 85 lbs before surgery, citing my age and lack of child-bearing as some of the reasons. I did well on the pre-op diet for the first 6 months or so and lost over 50 lbs before my weight loss stalled. I originally planned to get the band but after watching people on the lap band forum go for a year and a half with complications and endless fills and pb'ing etc, I decided to go for the sleeve. I've also switched from Richmond to SSF. I called Richmond four weeks ago, and it took them a week to return my call (and the message I received was them saying they didn't know why I called and to call them back again). After 2-3 weeks of calling Richmond with no respons, I emailed my PCP and asked to have him send my referral to SSF. Within two days I was already scheduled for orientation and psych eval at SSF. I'm excited! I can't wait to tell you all about it!

Hello everyone!

I'm super new to this website, and started this process about a month ago. It's really great to know that there are other SSF'ers out there that are doing well! I've been going through the process pretty fast..and am meeting with Dr. Alami in a few weeks. I've noticed that a lot of you guys had him! I was wondering what your experience was like with him..? Did you guys ask him how many surgeries he has done and what his complication rate is? I know I can ask him when I meet with him..but the more info I can get..the less anxiety I will have!

Also, I've lost 15 lbs since orientation (about 3 weeks ago) and was told to lose around 20. If i do..do you think he will schedule a surgery day right away? What was your experience?

Thank you so much in advance!!

Great news! I went to my psych appt today in Richmond. I weighed in at 266, which is 4 pounds below my goal weight of 270. They scheduled my Case Manager appt for THIS tuesday Nov 16th in Vacaville! OMG I am so excited. My mom has an appt the same day just 30 mins before me. She had asked when they were scheduling surgeries for and the lady said Jan, but then asked my mom how soon she wanted surgery and my mom said that we both would like surgery for December. That is when the lady gave us the Nov 16th Case Manager appt date. So I don't know if we can get our surgeries in December but I am hoping. Also, it looks like my mom and I can get our surgeries on the same day! Woo it has been a great Friday!!!

What does not having kids matter?? Never heard that before

Dr Fisher said that time and children stretch everything out in your abdomen. He said the internal pressure would be great and would make surgery more difficult. I've never heard that anywhere else either. I've also never met anyone who had to lose 85 lbs before surgery. I met someone once who came close, and she was in her 60s and she also was a Dr Fisher patient.

Anyone know how much extra time I should take to get to SSF on tuesday morning? I've always tried to avoid driving to SF at during rush hour.

Where are you coming from? I know I live up about 45 minutes north of San Francisco and so I leave about 1 1/2 hours before an appt just to make sure.

I have a pre op appt with Dr. Le on the 23rd. I'm nervous. He wanted me to lose 10 lbs and I just haven't been able to. Truthfully not eating so great. I have 10 days left, so will knock out some exercise. I've had a bum knee, a horrible cold, and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, so haven't been doing too great. Just so I haven't gained. I don't think I have. My home scale says I haven't. Hopefully I'll find out some news at that appt. I'm really looking forward to getting the surgery and moving on with my life. I want to get rid of this sleep apnea too.

Welcome Karelo! How is post op going for you? Any challenges? Congrats on getting your sleeve. My daughter and I have our appt this morning with the case manage and are hopping for a December surgery. Were excited, so will have to wait and see.

Woo Hoo!!!! I have a surgery date of December 13th! Yikes! That is less than 1 month away! I am nervous already. My mom is unable to have the surgery until Jan 3rd. She is bummed but they put her on the cancellation list so hopefully she will get in sooner. I have an appointment for the pre-op class in two weeks and then surgery is a little over a week from that. Everything is moving soooo quickly. Does anyone know when the next Kaiser support group is at Point West?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
