I'm a Kaiser girl, but was a self-pay, low BMI, band patient. I wonder if Kaiser will assist me with a sleeve revision.

What is the process to get things started?

What is the process to get things started?

I just started the process myself and my first step was to talk to my primary and he referred me to the weight loss surgery overview class. I go next week for my orientation.

I can agree with Stacey, that is exactly how I started. Which Kaiser WLS facility are you closer to?

I am closest to the Fremont location. I spoke with my primary today and he wasn't thrilled to find out I was banded in Mexico. He is going to send a message to the WLS group and he said that they'd either call me directly to set up an appointment or they will call him for more info.

I was just banded in January, but have only lost about 15 lbs. I've been being seen by another doctor in San Jose for my fills that isn't related to Kaiser. I'm just wondering if Kaiser will even touch me since I was a Mexico bandster.

Any advice?

I got a call from a nurse at Kaiser today and she requested my surgery report. She told me the doctor would be in touch with me in 2 weeks to discuss. I asked her about the likelihood of getting a revision. She told me that it was on a case by case basis and that they only do revisions if the band failed me - not if it wasn't working for me. So the mere fact that I'm not losing isn't enough for them to do a revision, however if I have a leak, erosion, etc, then it's possible.

So, I haven't been officially diagnosed with any issues, it's just been suggested.

So we'll see what happens. I do think I may have a leak, but again, we'll see.

I really want to get revised to a sleeve.

I got a call from Kaiser and they set me up for an appointment with the doctor in August. They also set me up for labs and to see the nutritionist during my visit. Since I have a band, I'm hoping this will get me one step closer to a sleeve.

That's great, hopefully they will allow the revision!

they told me that they revise on a case by case basis, but only if there is a problem with the band.

...now I don't want to "wish" for something to be wrong with my band, but . . .

Hey Kaiser peeps, I just wanted to say hello. I got my Sleeve at Kaiser Richmond with Dr. Baggs and couldn't be happier. I'm one of those slow losers but I can really see myself getting to goal.

I LOVE my Sleeve!

Hey All..........so with the revisions are you with Richmond Kaiser? I sorta figured the band has to be broken to get a revision. I am still hoping to talk to my doc. I have had problems with my fills and unfills and have ended up in ER three times now. I consider it a problem!! But not sure they do.............I am gonna try for another fill in August if I get to tight this time I am done with fills!! THey wanted me to get a fill in July and I said no way!! LOL. But I am not losing without fills so if the band is gonna work I have to get another fill.

I figure if I end up in ER again than maybe they will give me a revision!! LOL. I mean if I can lose with the band great. But if not I hope they consider a revision. My band isn't broken I don't think but my body swells really bad with every fill.............two ER visit with the last fill. One for an unfill and another because I couldn't breathe well after. And a visit to the pulmonlogist who said I don't have asthma that it was either the band............or my fear of the band being to tight that caused me to not be able to breathe.

The dietition did tell me I had a year of problems with the band.............she said you have been through alot the last year. Yep. So maybe that means something?? I still have to do food logs..........I am hope if I cooperate that eventually they will see that maybe it is not me being oboxious it is my band.

I have considered now doing anything though, no more surgeries and just forgetting it. I don't want to get the sleeve have a complication and than be sorry..............the times I have been in ER getting unfills I get mad at myself for messing with any surgery. also the first week of barely getting it liquids sounds alot like the band being to tight!! UGG. Not sure I would survive that part with out not being able to breath again.......

But I would love to get more infor on Kaiser and revisions. Any more information please post and if I get information I will post for sure!! :-)

I am also going thru the program in ssf.my doctor is Dr.Alami and i have heard good things about him.so far i am happy with the process.Glad to see kaiser north people!!yay! I actually wanted the band, then i had heard that kaiser fremont doesnt do them any more and i asked why and was told because of the extra expense with the complication,dr visits and er visits, etc.thats when i looked into the sleeve and think that is the best option for me.

So Dr. Fisher said he "wasn't comfortable doing surgery on me" but I don't understand his reasons. I called and asked for a second opinion. They told me I might have to go to Fremont or SSF. If I can't have the surgery, I will accept that, but I want to understand fully the reasons why.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
