re: the gym: DON'T be scared of it... I prefer to laugh when it hurts... just remember that the first 2 workouts are the hardest and then, well then, you start to crave it and the pain melts into RESULTS! Just be yourself in the gym, you don't need to impress the people at the gym- you are doing this for you, and they have nothing to do with you! It's amazing what happens when you start thinking and doing for YOU. and I know YOU can do it... Just don't go and think you can automatically lift 50 pounds, take it slow and build up the reps and weights. When I first started with this regime I could only do 3 push-ups in a row and 20 sit-ups. Three weeks later I can do 150 situps (and that's weighted) and 8 push-ups in a row (but 25 total). It's amazing how fast your body will take on the challenge if you let it! So you can do it, just believe in yourself and screw everyone else! I can't believe you lost 80 pounds this year! Great job! I can't wait to say 80 lbs... I'm getting close, but I'm not there yet. I just can't wait to get below 200! 6 pounds to go!

Oh and make sure to tell them about your back- if it hurts really badly there are other exercise options!

When I go to gym, most people are in some sort of sweats, I haven't seen leggin's in FOREVER (well, since the 80's) so don't worry, be comfortable and scope out the scene. Remember the first session is purposefully really hard so the trainer will see where you are and where they can take you in the next few weeks.

Congrats on taking the next step! It's more like a leap and you will feel amazing doing it! Just don't forget the Protein before and after working out and the water!

I'm a 7/07 bander and want ask a tmi question from the 7/06 banders

Here goes - :nervousHow is #2 for you.. :oHas it changed??

I had Water in water out while on liquids - then got mushy last Thursday - had combo diarreah/baby poop - but i have to go often (not just once a day pre-band) and my hemroids (i know tmi) are killing me...

I had some one tell me today that their gf who has been banded for a yr now has diarreah (sp) all the time and when she has to go she has to go..

So what's the answer????

Thanks,:)

I don't have the have to go problem but I never have been that way. I do have the hemmroids and OMG they can be hell. But, you know, since I've lost weight I have only had one episode with them so I do think the weight loss helps.

Okay everyone,

I did it. I went to the gym and loved it. I am so old schooled and was scared to go by myself so my daughter who is a member as well went with me on her lunch break, which is 1 1/2 hours today. She is 8 months pregnant and kept up with me now that really makes me feel fat and old but I did enjoy it. I know that sounds crazy but for once in my life like you said Leona I was taking care of me. Not the kids, not the grandkids, not my Mom with cancer (which I don't mind that at all), not my grandmother, just me. I know it is not much for you worker outers but I did do one mile in 20 min.s on the treadmill then 20 min.s on the cycle and then 45 min.s doing weights. I worked up a sweat in a hurry. I had no clue nowdays they had a big tv in the ceiling in front of every treadmill and cycle and there was probably 50 or more of them and them you could plug your ipod or your headphones in and hear it. So neat. I am going back tomorrow and just going to try to do a few more reps each day. My trainer wants to concentrate more on reps than more weight.

Thanks for all your help and Leona your a doll. You and I weigh about the same and I can't wait to hit the onederlands either. I really admire you and you look so awesome.

Well I use to hear people talk about the gym and how good it made them feel and I thought, your so full of shit but they weren't it does make you feel better about yourself, now if I can just stay with it. I guess since the price is locked in for 1 year that may be incentive right there, lol.

Hugs and hope everyone is having a great week.

Hey guys!! I haven't been exercising but I have been working hard. I have been helping my mom with her house. She is getting it repainted and I help her put back up the curtains and other stuff. For the past couple of days I have been sore (in my legs) and dead dog tired by the time I get home. I would just come home and take some pain medicine and gone to bed for a couple of hours. My hubby had to get a Mylogram today and he has to stay down for 24 hours so I have been getting things for him. He might have to have surgery again but if he needs it he needs it. I just wish he was out of pain. I will start exercising soon I promise. We are going to do some repainting and remolding on out house too. It needs it and we are going to have a grandbaby in Feb. and we need a place that is decent so the baby can come and visit. LOng story. I guess I better go. I have been sooooo hungry today. I hope I won't eat too much. Talk to you guys later. Hugs

Hey Beth,

Congrats on that Grandbaby. My 2nd, little grandson is due in the next 3 to 4 weeks and I can't wait. My little granddaughter will be 2 next month and I raise little mini daschunds and I let her pick out one today. There are 4, 3 girls and one little runt boy and she picked the little boy and she says "Nana, howley. She kept calling him howley so that's his name.

I hope your husband doesn't have to have surgery and those mylograms are no fun. I have 2 ruptured in my Lumbar spine and already had one surgery and I refuse to have another. I eat loritab 10's somedays but I keep postponing surgery as long as I can. Hope your feeling and doing great. I miss talking too you.

Guess what Leona. I walked 2 miles today at 3.5 mph. I'm so proud of myself. I was a sweating. But I didn't let up and yesterday just did 1 mile. Enjoy your new man and I know you are, lol. You look hot so I'm sure he's enjoying the new you.

Hugs everyone,

Sherri Jo

Congrats Sherri!!!

See it gets ADDICTING like no other! I'm PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!! I am craving the gym as we speak because as you now know... it feels good to be doing good things for youself, so I'm gonna workout a bit during lunch. I work in a 6 story building so I am gonna run up and down the steps carrying my luggage purse lol. KEEP GOING !!!!!

Congrats BETH on your new Grandbaby!!!! I can't wait for a baby-- well maybe I can, but I'm excited for that point in my life.

I went to the gym on Sunday, and did my weight-training/cardio and went yesterday and did the same, and I'm trying for tonight. If I get it in 5 times this week, I'll be happy!

We are doing it, July Bandsters!!! We are fighting our demons and becoming better people inside and out... all I can say is, I'm in awe of the amazing changes we all are making. These are no longer sacifices because they are no long worth sacrificing our health. We are now making healthy choices to live, and doesn't it feel good?

Countdown to NYC is: 19 days...

and the big question is... will my month and half long relationship last? haha... only time will tell!

I was wondering the same thing. I bet everyone is busy with school and shopping and stuff. Although my kids are moved out I sure do miss getting ready for school and the shopping and stuff. Congrats on the grandbaby Beth. My little grandson should arrive in the next 2 weeks and I can't wait. I sold 2 of my little daschunds, they were 6 weeks old today and 1 pound and I have 2 left, they are sooooo sweet. Well I start school on Monday so I should be a busy girl with one granddaughter and a baby due in 2 weeks, school, homework, son getting married, husband, housework, babysitting and puppies, lol, and most of all the gym, so maybe with all that going on I'll loose some more weight, I hope.

Hey Leona, has the boyfriend going. Hope your being a good girl, lol.

Going to school Monday and then to the gym. Heck, I'm going to feel like a teenager again.

I've thought about asking my pcp for weightloss meds to help what kind do you guys recommend?

Talk to you all later, everyone have a great week, and keep up the losing.

Hugs,

Sherri Jo

Hey everyone... sorry it's been so long... I've been busy with my new boy...

we decided to try a long-distance relationship once I leave for school on the 26th. It's weird to say I'm attached and I'm no longer looking... but am and I'm not.

Tomorrow is my bday... so I'm preparing for that as I am packing for school. I go back to school on the 26th, and I'm super sad to leave Matt.

Other than that, I'm just trying to get through the next few days while packing for my next NYC move. I'm living with 2 guys- so it should be interesting- I think I'll have to leave the toilet seat up!

haha

well, hugs to all... this busy time will pass, and time moves on, but being that we are family now, keep in touch!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
