Dr Aceves recommends "avoid rice, potatoes and bread".

These are high glycemic index foods, in other words, they are similar to eating sugar. Corn is another one that fits in this category. I'm avoiding them, because my goal is to LOSE weight.

Also, rice may swell in your sleeve, which could cause a leak. Even if no leak occurs, a swollen sleeve is VERY painful.

A lot of healthier veggies have complex carbohydrates that are better, in moderation. Squash is one example. I'm looking forward to when I can add a little veggies to my diet, but for now, all I can eat is a tiny piece of meat, and I am FULL. Lovin that sleeve!

It sounds good but I have to agree with Cajun. I also was told to avoid those things too. I actually was warned that bread, rice & Pasta get Gummy and dried fruits and coconut get sticky. I would rather be safe than sorry, plus I want to lose as much as possible this first year when it is the easiest. Good luck!

Believe it or not I agree Cajun. I don't eat rice, drink milk, or have butter.

All No No's in my book. tuna a cheese, acceptable but none of the rest.

I want to add that during the initial weight loss stage those foods should be avoided, but once you reach goal, incorporating some of these into your diet is NOT completely out of the question.

I just don't want everyone to think that those foods are completely off-limits for the rest of your life.

The sleeve is about Portion Control and moderation.

I enjoy tiny portions of rice, potatoes, and Pasta about every other day. When I say tiny portions, I'm talking just a couple of bites here and there. I'm also attempting to get my weightloss to stop because I'm at goal, and need to focus on maintaining.

I also do not suffer from the "eat carbs, crave carb" syndrome so that little tidbit is NOT true for every sleeve patient. Even at 7 months out, I still never feel true hunger pangs or actual hunger.

Just my 2cents.

If I enjoyed tuna, I'd probably enjoy this recipe, but I don't eat tuna unless it's one of my weird craving days.

I'm only a month out here, but I'm a 'pro' dieter like I guess most of us are. I think its important to say everyone is different, and its moderation that's important. I mean we have no choice as to amount of food we eat, but for me at least, I eat what I like. I've never been successful when I didn't eat what tasted good. If I eat a 1/4 cup of this dish and feel satisfied then great. I think sometimes we get caught up in this "oh you can't have that, its got carbs, or fat or whatever" I like the eggface lady's philosophy..she makes food that tastes good of course just eats very little of it. I have no plans to give up the foods I love. Full fat dairy products oh my! A few bites won't hurt me, it will give me the satisfaction I need to move on. OK sorry if that was a rant...really didn't mean it to be!! Love this open forum where we can share our random thoughts!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
