Rick,25 Years Old 300lb Being Sleeved 10-19-09!!

Recommended Posts

Well Ladies and Gentlemen My name is Rick I am 25 Years old and I'm so tired of this on going battle with my weight! Like many of you I have lost tons of weight in the past but some how it always comes back pissed off and ready to bring another 20 pounds with it. I think its kinda like a pay back for making it leave in the first place lol.. anyway I finally made a choice to get WLS, and I'm not looking back ever again. hence my screen name BIGRICKNOMORE !

Well I will be having the Gastric Sleeve in Tijuana Mexico. With Dr. Almanza

October 19th. I've done plenty of research and I feel very comfortable with my decision. (so please no negative comments) I was very fortunate to get a great deal yesterday, $5,000 all inclusive! airfare and everything.. I was really excited about it.. not that money is the most important thing but since this is out of pocket & since my wife and I are both getting this done $10,000 is a lot of money for our household anyway. So we are very thankful that there is an option for us to both get the surgery together this year. Thank you Dr. Almanza and his team!

Well not trying to promote any specific Dr. just thought I'd share who we're going with. I will say if you have had WLS with Dr. A please comment and share your PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. if good:thumbup:if bad:thumbdown:

I'm interested.

So I guess thats about it ,we'll be posting our journey here and maybe on youtube. So hopefully in a couple months we'll be much smaller and much happier!

Thanks for reading..

Rick

Good for you and your wife, Rick! I have heard lots of good things about Dr. Almanza but have no personal expreience with him since Dr Aceves did my sleeve. I was skeptical at the very beginning about going to Mexico for the surgery but once I did a LOT of research, I became more and more confident. It was the best decision I ever made.

Not easy...there are rough days and you will have them too...but once you start seeing the pounds drop off, it is so motivating to follow the doctor's regimen exactly, and lose as much as you can. It comes off fast at first then slows down to a steady pace. I am so happy for you both.

Congrats Rick and Rick's wife. I am so jealous of you. I have to wait until 12/29/09 before I get my sleeve from Dr Almanza. Please do your video journal. I think would not only help the one's who follow it, but it also be helpful to ya'll.

Bill

Welcome Rick (and Rick's wife) - that is great that you are both having the surgery. My fiance, BeardedItalian, had his surgery on 7/11/09 - mine was on 6/12/09. I've lost 47 lbs. and he is close behind me at 40 - being a man, I am sure he'll pass me up before too long; however that is okay - we're both in this for the long haul and are one another's biggest cheerleaders. It makes it nice, too, that you'll both be eating the same things - and you'll see a drastic reduction in your grocery bill once you get through the "experimental" stage of figuring out what you want to eat and what you can eat. WELCOME we look forward to reading about your journeys.

Hi Rick and Wife,

It was the 19th October yesterday over here in Perth Western Australia, so I guess you'll be having your operations over there today in your time. Thinking of you both and wishing you both a speedy recovery. I've had two failed bands and hopefully will be having the sleeve next February. Looking forward to following your journey with you.

Best wishes, Katydid.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
