You really don't realize how much your kids absorb. Up until today, he hadn't mentioned my weight/size at all, good or bad. Apparently however, it did not go unnoticed.

Linda-

You are so right- you don't realize what our kids absorbe!!

My kids are older, and the first time my youngest son saw me was 6 months after my surgery and I had lost over 100 pounds- He came home and he Actually cried! I was almost afraid... I asked him he thought I looked sick or something, he just replied..... I wasn't expecting such a change!!

And speaking of kids and a NSV moment.......

Several of my kids friends hadn't seen me since my surgery, and he had been home here for the past two months, well....... I finnaly saw two of them...... the one came in the kitchen, and I could see the look in his eye and the double take and the big smile and then I got "WOW........ LOOK AT YOU!!!!!!!!" A big hug and kiss followed and I was touched!

The other kid I saw while I was working..... samew thing....... double take and just the look of Surprise!

Big hugs and a kiss there tooo!!:001_tongue:

My kids never commented on how big I was, I know they loved me regardless of my size, but I'm sure I was an embarresment to them, altho they never would say it.

So seeing these reactions really makes me smile!!

OK, some of mine; some might be a little X-rated or offensive, sorry 'bout that but we've all been there:

1. Not having to be a contortionist to wipe your butt. Sorry, I warned you.

2. Being able to glimpse the hoo-hoo in the shower over the belly which is getting smaller.

3. Being able to feel the "C" down below whereas before it was hiding like a turtle and you had to hunt for it with both hands.

4. The "U-Touch" works much better now because the nerve endings are much closer to the skin since the fat's gone. (If you need an explanation of what the U-Touch is, think I-Touch and you'll get the picture.

5. Crossing legs is a matter-of-fact position rather than a pretzel twister.

6. You can undress in front of your significant other instead of hiding in the closet with a warning DO NOT ENTER sign on the door.

7. Your jammie bottoms keep falling off you when you turn over in bed cause they're so loose.

8. You're beginning to give yourself some credit for doing all this hard work instead of slamming yourself for how you got into this situation.

9. You look into the mirror and smile focusing on your achievements instead of all your imperfections.

10. You need a calculator to figure out how much you've lost on any given day instead of having it in your head at all times.

11. You catch guys looking at you out of the corner of your eye because you've removed the blinders that didn't want to see anyone looking at you before.

I'm sure there's more, but these come to mind first.:crying:

I love reading these NSV's, they are great. I admit, I especially enjoy reading some of the R rated and up ones, lol.

I had a great weekend. I got a new tattoo. October was breast cancer awareness month and a local tattoo parlor was doing the pink ribbon tattoos for free, as long as you gave a minimum donation of $20.00 to breast cancer research, so me and a coworker got one. Here is the picture, just pretend I am wearing a bathing suit:

photo1.jpg

Then, I went to get my nails done for the first times in six months. I went to my same nail tech I had been going to forever, and she didn't even recognize me! She couldn't believe how different I looked with all of the weight loss.

Lastly, I had an appointment with my OBGYN on Tuesday. One of the reasons I have always dreaded going is because not once in the past 25 years have I been able to close those darn gowns they make you wear. I realize they are going to see us in our all anyways, but still, I like to remain covered up for as long as possible. I was pretty darned excited when I was able to completely close the gown with no gapes whatsoever.

So, those are my most recent NSV's, kind of silly, but they made me feel good.

Good for you, Susan. Nice tat. I don't have any tats, but that's just me. I get bored with things way too easy to have anything permanently on my body. It's a nice gesture that they did that to forward breast cancer awareness.

Thanks. I thought it was great. They were surprised at how many woman, and even men got the tattoo. They had originally hoped to raise about $2,000, but ended up raising well over $10,000, which is amazing!

I can see and feel my collarbones ! ! ! I can't even remotely remember the last time I was able to see my collarbones, maybe junior high? ? ?

I've noticed that on me, too, Tiff - and can't remember the last time I was able to see them ...

Also, went to Kohl's (dangerous for me) and tried on several tops - XL was too big and L was too tight -- so I didn't get either -- will go back in another 10 lbs and try on the L - can't remember the last time I was in a size "L"... and

My daughter-in-law stopped by the office today to get something I'd bought for her and she said "You're getting SO SKINNY" ... LOL ... now I am FAR from skinny but was nice to hear someone say so.

I will be seeing my oldest son tomorrow night - haven't seen him since my surgery -- another story in and of itself - so will be interesting to see if he says anything ...

Susan - having gone to my OB/GYN last week, I can totally relate to the gown thing. I could snap my up with no gaps too, I was so happy. Don't wanna show too much too soon :blushing:

Chancie - I discovered the towel thing too. Over a year ago I bought some oversized towels so I could wrap them around me and tuck in to stay put. Last week, I grabbed one of the standard towels without thinking and wrapped around, tucked and walked into the bedroom before I realized what I had done. :crying: I nearly ran into the kitchen to show my husband.

On a typical day, it's not about the number on the scale that makes me smile; it's about the little things I rediscover. Little things that I blocked from my overweight mind because I was embarrassed I could not longer enjoy/do them.

I found another fun NSV thing to do: go back and try on jewelry (rings) you haven't been able to wear in years and now they fit. It takes you back to where you were when you got the ring or jewelry and that's usually a fun time to reminisce.:crying:

Bob-

Congradulations! You deserve an I-Touch!

Here are some of my successes:

Lost 2.5 sizes in clothes (its difficult being between sizes isn't it?)

No longer need lipitor to control my cholesterol

No longer need TriCor to control my triglycerides

No longer need one of my two blood pressure meds (still need the other one, but I am confident that with additional weight loss that will be unnecessary soon as well.)

My knees have been hurting less

Best wishes and keep up the good work!

My NSV is getting off of my blood pressure medicine and giving clothes away as I change sizes. Before when I dieted (I've lost 120 pounds and 90 pounds - gained it back each time) I saved the clothes knowing I'd probably need them again. Yesterday - they were donated to the Humane Society Thrift Shop. YaHoo.

My NSV for yesterday was I was getting ready for my first day back to work after Vacation- and decided to try on a pair of pants I bought for 8 bucks 2 months ago........ Size 14 and they fit! COMFORTABLEY!! I almost forgot about them... some pants as you know fit diferently- 'cause I been in a 14 in other pants.

Then, being at work after being off, people saying how "skinny" I'm getting.... it still blows me away- 200 pounds + and SKINNY???

But still nice to hear:001_tt2:

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
