How soon after "your" (anyone) surgery did you drink alcohol.... My good friend is leaving this weekend and is having a going away party at a bar. I really want to drink :confused1:, but I'm worried I might get sick while I'm out  and then ruin my evening.....

My surgery date was 7/8/09.... Any advice?:drool5:

I think each person is going to be different. I had a few sips of wine and the acid it produced was not worth it. Maybe go easy and drink very light your first time. Beer is probably not a good idea due to the carbonation.

I just asked my surgeon on August 24th, and he said to steer clear of really dry, red wines, beers, and dark liquors. He said that a sweet, white wine might be "ok" in small doses, but to not overdo it.

You might be surprised that you don't like it, I tried to drink a beer on the 4th of July ( I use to LOVE a cold beer ) a few sips and that was enough.... it tasted awful!

I'm staying clear of all of it for now.... I'm an addictive personality, and use to drink too much. So I thought it best to stay clear of it and I don;t miss it so far.

I have to agree. I may not want to drink alcohol again ever. I know I won't drink beer as I gave it up about 2 weeks before surgery due to the carbonation. I tried white wine. Acid reflux city. I really wasn't a wine person anyway. I really liked vodka and light rum with juices or cyrstal light. That will be my next try but I am waiting a couple of months. If that is a no go then alcohol will be eliminated from the diet.

I"m four weeks out and went to an outdoor concert and the only thing they had to dring (besides water:tongue_smilie:) was a frozen drink. I got a small and nursed it the entire concert....got a little buzz but didn't feel like I over did it...stay away from the carbonated drinks...just remember everyone is different and you may tolerate something without problem initially then the acid comes....:001_cool:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
