Advice to those to be sleeved

Recommended Posts

I hate medical tape. Deplore it. Caused my more pain than any of my incisions. They should have told me to shave certain areas, like the inside of my arms, the backs on my hands, and the inside of my thighs. The Foley coming out was, well, an odd feeling, but the tape removal was down right brutal. I have bruises not from the incision, but from the damn tape. Ouch. Yeow. Holy crap. Now I know what you ladies go through if you're waxed. You are all sick puppies!

Glad to see you're feeling better Bob ... I would have thought they would have shaved those areas before applying the tape to be sure the tape stuck ... guess I was wrong ... guess this means you probably won't be considering a brazilian wax anytime soon?

I would also suggest making it a point to ask for a cool, wet hand towel to be nearby. Feels so good to wash the face and clear out the nostrils. That oxygen nose tube made my nose so dry! Digging out the crusties was not fun, but that small towel made it tons easier. I sure hope this helps others and is not just looked at as a bitch!

DANG - sounds to me like they had every hole you had filled with something -- I didn't have a catheter or anything down my nose ... YIKES

Hey Bob,

I've been wondering how it was going with you. So now I guess I know. Other than hair and boogers, how are you? LOL

heyyy bob!! your growling...you got to be ok!! lol funny about the waxing tho.... the first time is the most painful and after that its a walk in the park!!! i think the longer the hair is, the more painful it is....so maybe to the guys that are reading this make sure you shave EVERYTHING about 1 to 1.5 weeks prior to surgury!!! then when the tape comes off its not pulling all the long hairs...only the short ones... (wayyyy less painful) razors out boys!!!! *winks*

I am not even sure how to respond to this. We went from hairy arms, hands and thighs, to crusties, to men getting brazillian waxes.

Well, Susan, just had to express my suggestions for a more comfy hospital trip! :lol0: Honestly, those little things, sans the sick "waxing," made for a more tolerable couple of days. The best nurse I had was an old school nurse. She took care of the creature comforts such as a little paper trash place hung from my tray; the cool, wet towel; removing my leg compressors and allowing them to breath and just washing my legs off for me; found me a couple of fresh pillows; and being the first one to go scrounge up a SF Popsicle for me. Never thought orange would taste as good as a fine chocolate!

Yep, a great nurse is worth her weight in gold. I had some exceptional ones when I was in ICU once. (not with this surgery)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
