Success Diet for Bandsters!!

Recommended Posts

"MY" Dr doesn't want me to take any fat burning weight loss pills etc.

He says I need to change my habits not fall back into snacking and pill taking to lose weight.

Sounds just like what I did on Adkins for 2 years. I got close to goal weight (also using the phentermine) and then as soon as I started trying to eat "healthy" introducing good carbs back into my diet, I gained it back because my body was starving for things like milk.

I just can't do another "diet" like that anymore. I'm sticking to organic/whole foods but I still do watch for foods that don't have sugar in them. That's about as close to that doc's diet as I could get.

ALTHOUGH, I wish I could get the script for the Phentermine again. My house was never so clean!! ;)

Thanks for sharing Diane!

:) Kristin

My mom did a doctor supervised all Protein, no veges and no fruit diet for 9 weeks and her heart stopped 5 times.

Thank GOD she is now alright and about to be banded on June 26th! I'm about to be banded as well on July5th

so BE CAREFUL with diets and listen to your body!

Hey All,

I tried to get a hold of the girl who posted this on the other site & she hasn't been back in awhile. I wanted to see how she was doing on this diet & if she & others really stick to it. I agree that it seems very much like Atkins & I personally couldn't handle the Atkins diet. I'm wondering if the people wo follow this diet actually KEEP the weight off once they lose it.

You know, at goal -- if I'm lucky -- my leg will fit in a size 9.

And there's some misinformation in his message regarding ketosis, etc.

It's simply not safe to avoid carbs. Protein, when that's all you're getting, is toxic to the body. On Atkins I ate 20 carbs per day or fewer, for an entire year, and even that 20 was pushing it... I HAD to get the Water in to help flush things through, or deal with the consequences.

Appetite supressants? Not supplements? I don't know anyone who could survive on a protein-only diet, without supplements, and make it beyond a few weeks. Take away the potassium for a week or so and your muscles are going to start rebelling big time.

NJGirl - you are good!! That was fast.

I read through the web-site & was surprised that it was EXACTLY how the girl described it. I thought for sure she may have exaggerated a little on the no fruits & veggies. But.....wow, it says on there specificially to not eat any grains, veggies & fruits.

i don't think it's crazy at all. the thing we know about the band is that it takes quite a bit of effort to lose even with the tool and that it is almost easy to maintain weightloss with it. so if you can get to goal weight (by hook or by crook as in this diet) you can probably maintain the weightloss with eating sensibly. and this sensible eating will seem like a treat after an all meat diet for 9 months. i did Atkins for 2 years and i would have been in the shade if only i hadn't gained ALL the weight back. lol. but my blood work was normal, no deficiencies after that period which is longer than what dr fox recommends. so yes, those months may be unpleasant but his results are impressive. 72% ewl after 5 years is veeeery good. i think i may try the plan!

I have thought about taking an appetite suppressant, but I have no clue what I can take with High Blood Pressure. Would not mind trying the diet, but would need some info on what I can take. Any suggestions?

This sounds like an extreme version of Atkins. I lost 50 pounds in 18 months on Atkins and then started eating more low glycemic index carbs and gained 40 of that back. I don't believe anything that is that unbalanced is healthy, and I personally wouldn't do it. That's the reason I went through this surgery...so I could eat small portions of healthy foods in a balanced diet.

When I was doing Atkins, I did take chromium picolinate to help with the cravings, and I will probably go back to that soon...it's in a capsule so I can open and empty into a spoonful of applesauce or something.

I think I will try too, liquid diet did not work before either, but this time I have kept it off. So until complete restriction I will try anything within reason and then rely on the band to keep it off. That was one of the main reasons I got the band. I knew that I could lose the weight, I have, like everyone else, 3-4 times, but the problem is keeping it off...So I will try this to lose and once I get restriction introduce other carbs. We'll see!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
