Reflections from a Fat Chick

Recommended Posts

That is the hardest part of the surgery. It is a big problem for me too. Do you buy magnesium tablets? Where do you find them?
One more thing. Sorry to be so graphic, but my bowel movements are terrible and anything but normal. I'm LUCKY to get a movement once a week, and when I do, it is very painful. The cramps and contractions I get are tear-wrenching. Anyone else get this. What can I do to regulate my BM. Thanks.

Oh god do I feel your pain. There are some answers here:

I take a stool softener now. I am trying every 4th day. I get the ones that is only a stool softener, no laxitive or stimulant. Also I take Fiber now. Things are better but not great. Feel free to pm me if needed.

Hi everyone,

I'm down 65 pounds! I can't believe it. And its only been 4 months! It is amazing to me how the tables have turned so quickly for me. Before, I'd constantly be getting comments like, "how's your baby" or "when are you due?" Now I'm getting my co-workers coming up to me saying things like, "why are you losing so much weight? Are you doing it on pirpose or are you sick?" No joke, in the last two weeks, three different people from work have approached me asking if I am sick becuase I'm losing so much weight. Maybe the tables haven't turned; I can't tell if it is a negative vibe I'm receiving or a concerned one. I can imagine that it must be a shoke to some how I have just evaporated. 65 pounds in 4 months is a lot. I don't know what to think of it. But I can honestly say, I don't like being the topic of discussion in the lunch room when I'm not around.

Have you told people that you had surgery?

It hasn't been that big of a deal for me because I had the band first, and I lost slowly with the band. I really haven't lost much with the sleeve, so it hasn't been very noticeable.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you are the topic of conversation all the time, then their lives must be pretty boring. I think now they are jealous of your great results. They're asking you if you're sick even though they see you looking good and feeling great? That tells me they're just envious. That's OK. You can say you found a diet that works for you - not a lie - and you're having great results with it. Leave it at that. If they say WHAT'S THE DIET, just say you came up with a healthy eating plan that works for you but that's probably not for everyone, and leave it there. Let them keep guessing what you're up to. It's good for them.:scared0:

Hey Sleeve Sister!

65 lbs! WOW! That's great! I agree with AJW. Your co-workers must lead an awfully boring life. I haven't told my coworkers about my surgery, but I'm getting many positive comments. It's been great. When they ask what I'm doing, I just say high Protein, low carbs and small portions. No lie there! Keep up the good work! I'm proud of you.

That is a whole lot of fat gone forever!! Awesome. Don't worry about your coworkers. Just tell them what AJW said and change the subject. It is none of their business if you don't want it to be.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
