Hi all,

Anyone else out there worried about wrinkles appearing as their faces deflate?! I am taking collagen each evening to try to help my skin reset itself but I wonered if anyone out there has any tips to help. I am also taking resveratrol every morning to maximize body repair.

I suppose I should not expect to look like I did before I gained weight but a fair approximation in a dim light would be nice.:confused1:

I realized that when I was fat I got old and just couldn't tell. ;o) It's not as bad as it could be. I will say that when I first got to goal it was spooky, but it snaps back a bit over time.

I worry about that as well. It's my turkey neck that bothers me.

OMG -- I hadn't thought about that ... I always tease that I look younger than I am because I'm so fat it pulls all the wrinkles out of my face ... UH OH ... guess I'd better starting working on face exercises... I don't want to look any older than I do and definitely not my age!

V Angel, How well did you say you knew that plastic surgeon?

I don't know him at all -- I know his sister pretty well though ... he does no free consultations so once I get close to goal, I'll be going to see him to see how much it's going to cost (BOB) ... LOL

No, I don't really worry about it. I was tired of being in my 50s and having a baby face anyway. My face now is a lot more interesting instead of a big old round moon and it's not *that* wrinkled.

Mac you have a good point. I am hoping I may have cheekbones by the end of the year :(

I'm with Oregon Daisy -- I'm worried about my turkey neck!!!! I can see in some before/after pictures now that my face is less round and my cheekbones are beginning to show. I've always thought that the weight made me look older, so I'm hopeful that I'll look alright.

I've heard that it may take a couple of years for my skin to adjust to my size. Anyone else heard that?

How does everyone feel about cosmetic surgery at our age? Anyone done anything?

I am experiencing the deflated bag syndrome. I have alot of wrinkles now. I am using lots of products, not seeing results.

I think I will go for the "life style lift" when I am one year out. It is a minor surgery that lifts the neck, jowls and cheek folds. ($3,200 approx) I do not care about the eye and forehead wrinkles.

I need to do something about the upper thighs and upper arms. I am working out with weights, but, man they are flabby. So I suppose I will have to do something there. sigh!

I am pleasently suprised that my stomach is nice. I thought for sure I would need the "tummy tuck" but I don't ~yet~. LOL Another 32 lbs off and we shall see!

Anyway, I have no potion/lotion that works. I am just gonna be patient until October then~~look out wallet!!

I'm not in my 50's, but my wrinkles are more pronounced with my loss. I will be getting botox in the near future, and have found a good product for the neck.

The Garnier Gravity Defying moisturizer really does work. I've been using it for 2 months, and have seen a lot of tightening for the neck area. My turkey neck wasn't bad, but it bothered me.

I always had forehead wrinkles, but my crows feet and fine lines around my eyes are definitely more noticeable.

I'm extremely vain, and will have the wrinkles fixed. I'll wait until I'm older to have a face lift, but I'm a nip/tuck advocate.

Yep, I plan on getting something done after 2 yrs, we will see what needs to be done at that time. I'm 57 so I don't think my skin will be as elastic as it use to be. Will probably need my eyes, neck, and face lifted some. Not sure about the arms, don't really want long scars. I'm loosing slowly so I hope that will help some too. It's frustrating, but I know I won't regain anything that I loose, so even a one pound loss makes me happy!

Hey Jane. I'm 52 and I'm worried just a little. I still look like I am in my thirties but, I was already seeing jowls start to appear before any weight loss. I wonder if they will go away or just get more pronounced. I'm also wondering about my stomach. I have never had children and was wondering if this will make much of a difference. I'm not too concerned about how everything comes out though. I know that no matter how much weight I lose, my body will never look 20 again. I will just be grateful not to be the fattest girl in the room anymore.

Hi, well at 8 months out post surgery, I can say that unless you exercise you'll have hanging skin. . . i'm 48 and have had 2 pregnancies I have that ugly apron which just sorta is there now, i exercise a lot and have noticed that the skin slowly is shrinking back. . . i'll never look WOW, but that is ok cause just like Texanatheart, I'm not the fattest girl in the room anymore and that is what matters to me! Good luck. . .

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
