My my sister and a couple of my cousin got nosy and went through my Instagram page and noticed I have many lapbanders on my page so, they confronted me and ask if I had one. I decided to come clean and say no but soon. Now the questions start!! Omg! I just want to live my life! They ask me questions like have you just tried exercising? Or have you tried this diet or that diet? Wth? If I had not tried every diet and failed I would be doing this. I'm even getting some cold shoulder from my sister. She is 12 years older and have gained weight but still looks good. So I don't get why I can't look good with her and why she feels she is owes to be comfortable in her own skin and not me? How do I deal with this?

Stay calm and thank them for their concern. Then tell them that you and your doctor have discussed all your options and the band is what is most likely for you to achieve long term weight loss. Tell them that it is important for you to become healthy that's it's not about fitting into a certain size of jeans. Tell them you will be exercising, that the amount/types of food you will be eating will change (like a diet) but the band is a tool to help you be successful long term. Then ask them if they have any questions. Then after all that if they can't be supportive it's their issue. Remember this is your journey. Best of luck!

Good answer, good answer!! I would have told them 'this is why I didn't tell you I was getting banded'.

I told everyone... and while i had positive feedback from all.. some still asked the same questions.. i politely told them that i tried basically everything short of becoming a drug addict and that this is the best option for me... that is when they told me they were just concerned because of the stories they have heard of complications.. I assured them.. the lap band was the safest and can come out of there are any issues and that i researched thoroughly for the best poss surgeon and the questions stopped. as for the cold shoulder... i know it gets to you but don't let it.. some just need to get over themselves.. you deserve to look and feel GREAT ... it;s your journey .. not theirs hun

Thank you so much. I feel better now. They are really on me but this sounds like a great plan

Sorry to hear. The above answers are good. This is also my reason for not telling to many people. And the banded friends which know, I fear one day spill the Beans. I now wish that no one knew. Good luck.

Good for you. Good answers from TAra and go walking.

I told a few people. I got pushback from unexpected people. I'm keeping it on the down low. My mothers does not know. I told my brother an hour ago. I had sucessful surgery on Thursday, but got a cardiac complication. I am still in the hospital in the cardiac wing.

Do not know when I will go home. WLS Surgeons cleared me. On Saturday for home.

Thank you everyone for the support. I can believe this is happening. I'm all set to go no turning back. Last week my primary doctor told me I didn't need the band in his opinion because I was fine the way I was. Well after 10 years of working for my doctor as his nurse of course he would say that but he cleared me and my surgery is roughly 2 1-2 weeks away. Band family!' A girl is being born!!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
