June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Hi Dawn --

Thanks for the update. I needed to hear that.

I've had absolutely no pain at my surgery sites. But the gas pains, oh my goodness!!! Yesterday was the worst since it was all moving around (I walked and walked so much yesterday). This morning, I am feeling much better. Still only drinking my Liquid Protein in the mornings. I am going to try some yogurt and apple sauce at lunch today. Took my first chewable Vitamin this morning (yuck!! --but that's my psychi, it really wans't that bad).

I started to have those feelings Monday night and yesterday, "what did I do to myself" ....but I remembered you all, and all those that have come before me and will come after me. We will be just fine!

Got on the scale this morning for the first time ....down 10 pounds.

Cutie......I know exactly how you feel. My hunger has been back.....I can eat just like everyone else..... I dont have to sip, sip, sip....i can gulp, gulp, gulp.....and i dont eat all that good food but i know that i could get it down....i am pratically starving myself so that i dont gain any weight back. I am frustrated....aggravated......dissappointed.....angry....and any other word that fits into that catergory. I hope that this first fill gives me some sort of restriction.......now i can completely understand how all those people felt when they said they wish they wouldnt have done this.....i know the outcome will be wonderful but right now just plain sucks!!!

Poodles.....I wish someone could answer that for me too. How much are we suppose to be eating....i know its only suppose to be 2 to 4 oz of food at a time...but i can eat twice that and then some if i let myself......i had 3 boiled eggs this morning with no prob at all.....trying to get my Protein in until my Protein Powder order arrives. If you get any input on that please let me know too. Cant vent to my family cause all i will hear is "I TOLD YOU SO"

Soooo Aggravated......:angry

Ok guys and gals, I called my doctors office and they have moved me to the mushie stage because I am hungry. They said to start with a 1/4 cup of mushies and to follow the band rules.

So drink what you want, wait 15-30 minutes, eat your mushies, and wait 30-60 minutes before you drink.

Yep that is right 1/4 cup. ONLY. Said if you eat too much at one time it will make your stomach work and we don't want it churning and ripping the stitches out (ouch!).

I told her I have been drinking WAY more than 1/4 cup at a time (sipping, but can drink 16 oz glass no problem), and she said that was fine. liquids will go straight thru as long as we don't drink too fast. Mushies will sit on the band for a bit to help us feel full... if we don't wash it down.

So 1/4 cup girls! Follow the band rules.

Sip, Sip, Sip,................. wait.............., chew, chew chew,........................... wait,.............. sip, sip, sip...

Well it went well this morning, even though I had lost 14 lbs on my pre-surgery diet Dr. Cobourn said my liver was still quite large, but they managed anyways without any problems thankfully. No nausea or dizziness, a little bit of surgical site pain, and a LOT of gas pain. It feels a little like they inserted a beach ball instead of a lap band! - I'm laying here in the hotel bed with my lap top beside me on the nightstand and the t.v. trying to distract myself. I have a little bit of that 'what did I do to myself?!?' syndrome because of the pain, and weird to think I have this thing in my body now. I keep going and reading peoples success stories in this forum, and looking at the before and after photos and reminding myself that this is my life I'm giving back to myself. I felt I was slowly killing myself with food and I need this to get healthy again. for people already banded, how long was your gas pain lasting?

XO

Leila

Congrats Leila --

I know how you feel about the gas pains. It will get better. It takes a few days. I had my first burp today (I know TMI) but wow it felt GREAT!!

I still can't eat much. I had about a teaspoon of mashed potatoes and about 2 tablespoons of SF/FF yogurt at lunch. I'm as full as can be. I'm not complaining. I'm just scared I'm going to do something to hurt my band. That is my greatest fear right now. I'm sure that there are people out there in bandland that have done far worse things and nothing has happened to the band. Trying to sip sip sip on my liquids. I'm not up to par but I'm trying. I get too full.

As soon as you can, walk walk walk ...that will help the gas. It's almost out of my shoulder and still have quite a bit in my stomach area (but I swear it's gone down 4 inches).

I'm curious, does anyone know what size band they have?

I was too nauseated after my procedure to even ask. I don't even remember seeing the doctor before I left  . I was reading the information that they sent me home with about my band. It said that the maximum fill on my band is 4cc. Does that mean I have a smaller band?

Just curious. I'll research some more. Always been a little confused about the sizes.

Leila, congrats on your band. My gas was in my shoulder/neck area and lasted a few days. Very minimal. Post op 8 days now and I'm loving it. Good luck!

Cutie --

I didn't get a picture. The camera broke  . I'm the only one that day that didn't get a picture of their band.

Guess I'll find out at my follow up.

My band size is 10. I think you got a smaller one Melissa. I have no pain except that soreness around the surgical areas. It feels like a big hard baloon when I try to get up from a chair. No real gas, although I have some left back ache now. I've been up and working for most of the day. I need to move a little so that gas pockets don't form.

Glad everyone is doing so well. Keep up the good work.

Lucy, congrats on your upcoming lapband! I'm 8 days post op and feel great. You will be shocked how fast the lbs comes off on the liquid phase. Good luck.

hey Lucy - we get banded the same day - good luck. I am now on day 4 of the liquid diet and down about 6 #'s as of this am. I am finding this isn't so bad - the first day was a killer but doing fairly well. I have been 99% faithful - I had 2 of my kids fries - it was not worth it though. Good luck on the 20th!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
