I'm just curious, how many of you out there drink carbonated beverages? I'm just about 4 months post op and haven't had one sip of a carbonated beverage. But I have noticed that some people on here do drink them? If you do drink them, is it often? And does it feel weird?

I'm 4 months out too. I've tried coke zero twice. The first time was a bad experience. It burned my throat every time I took a drink so I maybe had 5 drinks and ended up with heartburn the next day (not sure if it was related). The second time just a few days ago it didn't burn like before, but after about 5 drinks I started to feel "full" and thought maybe that was the carbonation causing gas build up so I stopped. I figure you can "teach" your band to handle soda again, but I don't think I really want to do that. Better off without the stuff or drinking it rarely.

I drink them all the time but wait until my soda is almost flat before I drink it. I have had no problems even when I drink a fully carbonated becerage

im 7 months out and have not tried it I was told it could stretch your pouch, not sure how true it is I just choose not to drink it, but I do know a few people who does and they seem to be ok,

I don't drink soda, but have no problems drinking beer....I just drink them slowly. AND I waited until one year post op.

There is a "lapband pioneer" surgeon who says as much diet soda as you want. You can find that info on Dr. Simpsons website. The actual quote is from Dr. O'brien.... From his 7 Golden Rules.

Thanks for all your responses. I can definitely live without soda...but a mimosa every once in a while would be nice :D

I was a Diet Pepsi addict pre-surgery. I have used my surgery as a reason to break that habit, and I have. I have taken a very small sip or two of my husband's, and it just makes me burp.

Now, as a tradition, a mimosa or a poinsettia on Christmas Eve is still doable, I just drink it really, really slowly!

I know many are told absolutely no soda, I was told it was ok occasionally if I could tolerate it. I haven't had a sip of soda since my pre op diet back in January, but I have tried some sparkling Water with no trouble. If you are going to try it, I'd try it with caution as I've heard some people get some serious discomfort.

I am actually a patient of Dr. Simpsons and he now says no carbonated beverages. According to the nutritionist he says no to them now as it increases the chances of the band slipping.

I had to make peace with this as I love diet dr pepper. I actually crave less sweets not having any.

My doctor told me I was restricted from anything carbonated, therefore I have not had any since my surgery. I used to love RC but my band is more important than drinking something that can damage the bands effectiveness.

One of the first things I was told by my surgeon was No carbonated beverages, No gum and no drinking during meals.. He said carbonated beverages cause too much gas and can result in band erosion or slippage and gum if accidentally swallowed would need surgical removal (I said Accidentally so don't give me that I never swallow my gum stuff).. anyhow if my surgeon told me to stand on my head and spit wooden nickels I will do it.. I trust him totally, he's done thousands of bands and has a great record of success.. I am so happy to have my band and will be forever grateful that I am on the road to better health... do whatever your Surgeon tells you if you trust them..

My doc has zero issues with carbonation

However..... I'm trying to drink Water ONLY because I hear it helps with avoiding loose skin (may be an old wives take but it certainly will only help!)

I have no problems. I try to sip them slowly. Touch wood iv never had any problems x

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
