October 3! Excited but anxious. My doctor didn't require a preop diet except for Clear Liquids for a day before surgery. Meeting with dietician and nurse on Friday for detailed instructions as well as preop labs.

They said my BMI was low enough (40) that I didn't have to do a liquid diet beforehand. I am eating a low calorie diet on my own, and have eliminated caffeine and sugar. I figure if I do this beforehand, maybe the dietary restriction might not be such a shock. At least I won't be dealing with caffeine withdrawl post-op.

That is what mine was as well. Like I said different doctors have different procedures. Well tomorrow I start my second week of the liquid diet so at least it's moving along.

I did that all summer long, lost 33 lbs. on my own! :) It definitely helped me prepare for my Pre-Op diet, and I'm sure it will help on the post-op diet too, I guess I'll find out on the 2nd! :) I also focused on lowering my portions significantly. :)

NikkiClem....glad to hear that you are making it on your liquid diet. That is one of the things I am concerned about....is the diet. I am sure I am going to be getting horrible headaches and the shakes just from the sugar and caffeine. I guess I will take it one day at a time and keep my eye on the prize. We have this and congrats on your upcoming surgery.
hate to tell u bit the headaches are the worst

Got my insurance approval, after their required 6 month program. I was irked at first. But it really was a good thing.

I Have lost 32 .5 lbs so far, with a goal of 40 by surgery date. 9 days from now.

The liquid diet is not bad. Not a hunger torture. I am allowed 600-800 cals a day. New Direction shakes are pretty good. I just wish there were more flavors. I cannot find the chicken Soup.. I got it once. Pretty good.

Nobody but my wife has noticed the weight loss. I used to joke " nobody notices the first 75 pounds you lose"

I barely noticed the first 30.

Good luck to all Ocotober people!

We all have or will mess up in the beginning. Just get the motivation back and keep reminding yourself WHY you started this process. You can do it. This is second day on pre diet and it is rough. Mind over matter

My case nurse said: no one expects you to be perfect every day. But if you can honestly say: I am pretty good most meals, most days, most weeks....... You will get there.

Hang in there

My mother told me I looked like I gained weight lately.

I told her I had actually lost 27 pounds since Jan 1.

What does she know.

I told you " no body notices the first 75"

She does not know about my surgery.- I am in Pre-op liquid and keep avoiding lunch with her. Ssshhhhhhhhhh!

Surgery scheduled for Oct 2nd. Very excited but scared at the same time. Been on the diet since Sunday. I find the hardest time is at night when I am watching TV so I eat a carrot....just need that crunch. Looking forward to cream soups.......I feel like I can feel more satisfied. Good luck to all of you.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
