I was told I can have caffeinated coffee after 4 weeks due to to the reflux that caffeine can cause. I was just wondering everyone's experience - do you drink regular coffee? how long after surgery were you able to start again? I'm counting the days till I can have my fix !!

I think I was a "good girl" for about a week after hospital. I was drinking clear tea. Then I could not take it anymore and started to drink my coffee with skim milk!

I use regular high octaine at home. No more than 2 mugs in the AM and if I am out I will do decafe. I too had the reflux and had to have hiatal hernia repair at the time of lap band installation. My Thoracic surgeon was surprised that I was not using antacids even 6 months after surgery. I did not have the nerve to tell him I never used them before or after. Did not have any signs of reflux but was told I had it.

I did not have a problem with heartburn until after my 2nd fill. I've figured out it happens when I have chocolate or coffee. My NP said that can happen and nothing is wrong with my band. I take Zantac if I want to have coffee now.

I cannot live without coffee....as far as post-op, I had my first cup the next morning...not saying it was correct, but I did not have any side effects from it.

Give it a good 2 months minimum. First month I would presume that coffee would have a harsher effect (if it' going to have any) because there's no solid food to counteract it. Use the second month to progress on solids to full servings. Once you are established on solids it's as good as it's going to get. However, if you are having signs of reflux/GERD than be cautious and avoid foods/drinks that will only exasperate the problem

Mine changes day to day. Sometimes I can have hot sometimes cold. Your body will tell you. But yes coffee is in my diet. I do sugar free because I don't need the sugar. I waited one week but never had reflux issues. Be careful and take it slow.

Honey, you're talking to the coffee connesieur (sp?)here lol!

When my doctor's nurse asked me how I did on the pre-op diet I said fine but I could not give up my morning coffee with half and half and Splenda in it she said well you can have coffee just don't overdo it. I said if I can at least have my morning coffee I was fine. I've had coffee everyday. With no problems and it's always high octane! The chemical they use to decaffeinated coffee gives me severe heartburn, always did. My doctor's office all know that's the one thing I refuse to give up. Instead of 4or 5 cups a day I usually only have one cup with 2 tablespoons of half and half (yes I measure out my half and half) and I'm not cranky for the whole day lol. I love coffee more than a dessert believe or not.

I totally hear you on being cranky without the coffee! :) I'm really looking forward to a regular cup this Friday, when I am officially allowed to have it. I've been without for 24 days! I love coffee too so as long as I don't experience any reflux issues I am going for it come Friday. I've been drinking iced Decaf. Thanks for replying! !

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
