Date set: July 11th - any other July banders?

Recommended Posts

Well ladies I have one more day of Protein Shakes and surgery at 9:00 on Tues, July 2nd. I am so ready to move on to something besides shakes, even broth sounds delicious:). I can't believe I made it through the shakes 4x a day. Good luck to everyone having surgery tomorrow! After surgery I'll post when I'm conscious and with it:)

Mine is tomorrow as well at 12:30 pm yuck! I'm excited and nervous but not as nervous as my family seems to be. I know they are concerned because of the lupus but my doctor is confident that it will go well. So I have to pray and believe that to be true. Day 5 done!!! Time for sleep then surgery!!!!!!!!!!! Wish me luck and prayers and best of luck to all of the other July 1st banders!!!!!!!!!!

I would just like to commend everyone on their progress with their liquid diets! It takes a lot of will power and endurance and you're all doing so well!

My liquid diet isn't required, but I decided to do a ten day one due to the safety perks, added weight loss and most off all to start getting me psychologically ready to let go of food...and let me tell you, best decision I've made! I'm just wrapping up day seven and I feel good. Tonight, I really struggled with a fast food craving. I found myself rationalizing "my surgeon only requires liquids after midnight the night before....this isn't required...I could do it and get back on track in the morning." But then I thought of all of you. You've all done so well. Keep up the good work and this forum really does help! :)

Well guys I am two days from b day and still only down 7 pounds on the preop. I kept to it so I can only assume I am retaining Water. I am kind of worried that my doctors won't come thru with my meds. What I mean is that I have fibromyalgia and several other disorders and I take a lot of meds. I'm trying to get them all converted to liquid form. I haven't heard back from the doctors or pharmacists so I am getting a little freaked out

Glad to hear all the stories about pre-op diets! I am on mine now.....did 4 days at about 600 calories....Sat...I ate salad! I had too......! I don't own a scale YET...but I am sure I am losing. I am pretty sure that a salad won't kill me. I plan on having salad on the 4th too...... but 5th-8th I will totally stick to my shakes and Water .....

New smoothie alert:

1 scoop Unjury vanilla

.5 cups frozen chopped (organic) spinach

.5 cups frozen (organic) raspberries

1 cup Water

.5 cup ice

Blend and delicious. I have been looking for ways to get enough Vitamin A and this Breakfast shake has me most of the way there and you can't taste the spinach.

I am gonna try it tomorrow with strawberry powder and a splash of lime juice in place of the vanilla.

Hey ladies! I just wanted to drop in and say GOOD LUCK! It's totally worth it!!

I started my (required 2 weeks) pre-op diet on April 1st (a few days early) bc it was the beginning of the month and my surgery was scheduled for April 18th. Then, due to bloodwork issues, my date got pushed to April 29th! I stuck to pre-op diet and lost 20 lbs before SX! The first few days SUCK! But, before you know it, you will be done with surgery, out of the different food stages in the first few weeks, and had a couple of fills! It's so worth it!!

Hi Everyone!

I haven't really been on since my surgery on the 26th. My surgery went very well. The only reason I have not been on is I have zero energy. I'm sure it is because of the 100% liquid only diet. I got to start mushies today so I cannot wait for lunch lol! I'm still starting my days with a Protein Shake. My pain is very slight. I am controlling it with tylenol at this point which is pretty amazing because tylenol does nothing for me typically. I did not get the left shoulder pain. I mainly just had pressure in my abdomen. I feel burpy a lot of the time and if I get up and walk it helps. I am still off of work till the 8th which is great. I feel like I will be good to go by then.

I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon and dietitian today. Don't quote me on these numbers because I want to see what my doctor's scale says but pre-op diet I lost 10 pounds and 6 days since surgery I am down another 9 for a total weight loss of 30 pounds since I began this journey.

Here are my pos-op tips so far:

Whatever you do don't freak out if the scale goes up right after surgery. I got on mine and was up 5 pounds. It is Water retention and gas. You just had surgery so ignore it!

Prune juice - enough said LOL

Water is a lot harder to get down than before but you can do it if you have it right by you and in a glass with a staw!

Walking really does relieve the pressure

Good luck to all of you!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
