A Little Freaked Out.....

Recommended Posts

I posted a couple of days ago about left upper arm/shoulder pain after my second fill. I emailed the doctor this afternoon, and he said that I need another upper GI swallow, and if that's okay, then he'll do an upper endoscopy to make sure everything is okay. I think I'm a bit freaked out because his office called me rather immediately, and got me in to an imaging center Monday morning. Geez......I did not have any of this pain until after that second fill. I hope this isn't the start of lap band complications. I was doing great until this..

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know I would be freaked out too. Good luck and I hope everything comes out OK.

Wishing you good luck and sympathizing with the torture of waiting all weekend. Try to distract yourself to minimize worrying.

This may sound completely crazy, but have you tried taking antacids? Like 5-6 Tums?

Why not get a little fill removed?

No, but I may do that today!

That's where is may end up, but he wants to make sure that nothing more serious is going on.

Try not to worry. I would be freaked out more if I were having problems and no one was taking me seriously or listening. At least this way you will get answers sooner than later and it may be an easy fix. Worry won't make you feel any better so just be patient, Monday is almost here! Keep us posted! :)

Instyle - thank you. I am glad that my doctor is taking a very proactive approach. I would be scared if I had a doctor that sloughed it off as something less than what it could POSSIBLY be.

I haven't been freaked out this weekend. My attitude is, that it will be what it will be. With that being said, my arm today isn't hurting as much; comes and goes. I hope he finds that nothing is wrong, because I'm very happy with the way I feel when eating, after the 2nd fill. If they have to take out 1/2 cc to bring me back to where I was before, I can live with that. I just hope that the arm/shoulder issue timing, is something unrelated, and simply coincidental to the timing of the last fill

Well......the upper GI swallow came back normal - yay! The band is in place, and everything looks fine. The only small thing he found was a bit of reflux, but said it was at the lower end of what they see with banded patients.

My doctor now recommends that I have the last 1/2 cc taken out, and see how I feel after that. That was only my second fill, and I'm just learning how things feel with all the changes. I have also noticed since the last fill, that I have difficulty eating in the morning. I also continuously feel like I have a lump at the bottom of my throat, so maybe the band IS just a little too tight. I've been a little nauseous too, which I didn't have prior to the second fill. What a learning process!!

So glad everything turned out ok!

A few years ago, my dr's office scared the crap out of me! My surgery was done in KS and then I moved to CO and 5 years went by before I finally found a new provider in CO. So every couple of years when we went home for vacation, I made an appt with my original dr for a fill. So about 2 years ago when we were planning vacation, I called to tell them I wasn't getting enough restriction and needed a fill. While on the phone, I mentioned that about a year before that, I had had the flu and was throwing up. She (just the receptionist, not the dr or other medical provider) kind of freaked out and talked about how dangerous that is and I might need to have the band removed. I was in a panic for several weeks until we finally got there and I got in for the fluro. Everything was fine. Several weeks of torture for nothing!

I can relate to the fear and the relief! Good for you!

Shelly

Jeez - they really need to talk to their receptionist about not projecting probabilities. That is a long time to go, thinking that the worst is coming! At LEAST transfer you to a nurse!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
