Burping a lot after fill

Recommended Posts

I got my 5th fill yesterday. I have been burping almost constantly. Not big belches but more like trapped air that keeps coming up. I did have reflux a few times last night but not too bad. I was able to eat some mashed potatoes, pudding and Soup slowly. I drank a Protein Shake this morning but am still having the burps.

Am i too tight? Should I wait a few days? Maybe my stomach is still a little swollen from having a fill? I went from 5cc to 6cc. I just didn't want to get in a situation where I have to go to the er or pay after hours prices.

Has this happened to any of you?

I was burping most of the night after my second fill, but it cleared up the next day.

Believe reflux is one of the symptoms of being in the red zone, but I doubt you are there. Sounds like you are having no trouble getting liquids down. Personally, if it wasn't freaking me out, I would give it a couple of days.

Tough call though. You don't want to have food get stuck that could lead to PB. Want to avoid anything that could put the band at risk for a slip.

My doc always advises me to stay on liquids for a few days to get the swelling down. Reflux is never a good sign. Perhaps do the liquid thing over the weekend and call the doc on Monday if things persist. Good luck!

Thanks for your comments everyone. I was just burping now I'm having a hard Time all around. Burping, getting stuck on everything, couldn't drink Water last night and had bad acid reflux all night. Yesterday morning I drank a Protein Shake no problem. Today I couldn't. I got stuck on something last night and couldn't get it out and today I'm sore in my esophagus. I'm so hungry and can't eat anything. I drank done warm broth no problem but can't eat the same mashed potatoes I had last night. I'm trying to hold out till Monday when my dr office opens. It's hard being anorexic!

In my experience, little, somewhat constant burping after eating, following a fill, is very normal! So is some acid reflux. Of course, large amounts of burping or extremely painful acid reflux (esp. to the point where you want to vomit from it) is NOT GOOD. But yeah...small amounts of burping is all normal. The next time you see your doctor, you may want to ask about a prescription for an antacid, or look into getting some prevacid.

Pb means productive burping. To get out the trapped air or the trapped food.

I ended up having to get an unfill. I was miserable. I ate something and chewed it really good but it got stuck and I couldn't get it out for over a day. When I went in to the dr office, Water hurt to swallow. I felt so much better going from 6 cc to 5.2cc. On the upside I did lose 7 lbs thurs to mon by not being able to eat! Not worth it

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
