I'm pre-op just went to my consultation this week, but as of now i don't have a comorbidity. I'm concerned that i can't get the surgery. My tests results have been forwarded to the predetermination department for preapproval. Has anyone heard of this. My bmi is high but that's all.

From what I understand if your bmi is 40 or higher you should be approved.. but, the guidelines have changed for lapband so I'm not positive... your Dr's office should know .. My Surgeon's office told me I would be approved right away, my bmi was 37 but I had diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

I was approved the first time. My BMI was close to 41, and I had a very mild case of hypertension. Also - reflux. I'm not sure which thing got me approved quickly, or if it was a combo of everything. But I'm only 6 weeks out and already off the blood pressure meds. I'm insured through Anthem Blue Cross.

I'm VERY happy with Anthem. We had Blue Shield last year, but I have to say that Anthem has been better.

My blood pressure issue was so mild; it would shoot up only upon exertion....which was discovered during a stress test. They put me on the lowest dose of hypertensive meds because of it, and I'm SO glad they did. If it weren't for a diagnosis in my records of hypertension, I don't know that the surgery approval would have gone through without a hitch.

Are you going through your insurance? You mentioned a "high" BMI, if you are over 40, you won't be turned down.

That could be risky on the psych evaluation...I don't think I would try that.

my insurance company requires that you have a bmi 40 or over and high blood pressure, diabetes, or sleep apnea

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
