Help! Has anyone gone to mexico to have an infected port fixed?

Recommended Posts

I am Canadian and my doctor retired. My port is severly infected. It has noteached my band yet. I need my port taken out and then replaced. No doctor will touch me here. Has anyone gone to mexico to have their port replaced, when it is infected??

When a doctor retires, their patients are usually given to another doctor to handle their care (if they agree). Isn't anyone taking his patients?

Were you originally banded in Mexico?

I don't know this for sure but it seems if your port is infected it's a medical emergency. Surely there is a doctor to remove it?

Have you reached out to your insurance company or their patient care group if that is applicable or the equivalent department in the National Health system?

They probably have the muscle to make a doctor accept you as a patient to avoid the case becoming an emergency surgery.

if something is severely infected, screw mexico and go directly to the emergency room...infections can be deadly and you are worth taking care of yourself.

You have no idea if it has reached your band or not. The infection is probably coming from your band/stomach down to the port. I know you said before ER won't do anything but do you know that for sure? If you pitch up I am sure they will have to do something.

At this stage of being banded the most likely cause of a port infection is erosion and that is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY. Maybe you should find some info on the net and print it and take it with you. That might help to convince them.

Elcee is correct. An infection at the port is generally suspected as originating at the band and can be a sign of erosion of your band. You need to consult with someone who can check you out. This is nothing to mess around with.

I just got home. Not from mexico..yet. I have been to a bariatric specialist and I know my infection is not coming from my band.I have been to two emergency departments, I just returned from my second. This time I went to a bigger hospital and I think I lucked out! First time they sent me home and said to see my doctor ? This time my personal doctors nurse called me at home and said to go and not leave till I got care :) Up until now I have been turned away from every doctor , nobody will take me because I feel they are afraid of a law case. Things are different in Canada. This is an elective surgery. They don't have to take me. While in emerge THIS time, I got another CT scan, the surgeon called his friend who is new at lapbands with an "interesting case" , I am so excited to have someone helping me!!! So far he agreed to replace the port , which the first bariatric surgeon recommended. He wants me on IV antibiotics right away. Just waiting for the culture to come back. I have tracked down my old band serial number and found where to get the replacement part. I send 4 emails to Mexico and only got one reply, telling me to go to my own doctor..hmmm you know its bad when Mexico wont even do it! Every day the chance of the infection travelling down the tube increases and I might lose my band.I am so happy I finally found someone to help me. Thank you for your support! Lets see if it gets done on time :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
