I'm 10 months post op and as some of you know my first six months were horrible, I was sick for the most part throwing up and nausea due to gallstones and gallbladder which had to come out Dec. 3rd so I had to go in for another surgery then. Backing up into November I got an infection on my left big toe at the cuticle and had eventually had to have the nail removed 2 months later. Since my lap band surgery I seem to be falling apart physically. This is the problem: Now my toe nails are falling off, I've had 4 now fall off and my hair is thinning. I take Biotin, Vitamin D which i was dificient in, in blood work last Sept. Has anyone out there experienced this with their nails? I know the hair can fall out and I think I'm getting enough Protein. My surgeon added a Protein shake to my diet but that just adds calories, ugh! I have an appt with my internal med dr on Monday in Nashville to get his take on it and I'm sure he will want to do fasting blood work. But I thought I'd see if any of you have ever gone thru this.???

Thanks

Donna

Hi, my nails and hair have been brittle since the pre op diet. I'm 10 months since surgery and a few kilos off goal weight. I've had to up the calorie intake with lean Proteins and getting in as many fruits and vegies as possible, usually through juices or Soups. I was eating too little and drank too much Water flushing some good things out. I've upped the exercise to offset the calories. Up side has been my skin has definitely improved post surgery

Are you low carbing? If so it could be that you need to eat a more varied diet. You might be concentrating too much on Protein and not getting enough of the other nutrients that you need.

Lots of links come up if you do a search in your browser.

thanks for the link, great read! I had a Podiatrist remove my big toe nail and see about the first little toe nail and he said "hm, due to injury or fungus" well all my nails look normal and normal color and he even said that too then he touched on my diet and nutrition. I'm so lost. Thanks for the link.

elcee I don't know what I'm doing, I tried to track my food on MFP and it was just too confusing because a lot of times I make or cook food here at home and I don't know how to track ingredients. This past week I've been on vacation with my mom, luckily it started me walking my dog around the resort we stayed at so hopefully that will keep me walking now that I'm home. As far as carbs, I do try to limit them but I do eat them, Protein is first, then veggies, then carbs. I go in next Thurs for a fill. Thanks for your input.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
