I wouldnt worry to much. The stuff they asked me was basically to find out how i handled certain situations, and to make sure that i wasnt someone who ran to food out of boredom or when i was emotional. Also making sure that I had some sort of support system, people that i could turn to who would help get tme through any rough days I may have. That my family at home wouldnt be people who might sabotage the things im trying to do. I am sure you will do fine. Good Luck.

Just be honest with yourself and the psychologist. They are there to help you.

I found the psych evaluation to be pretty weak. They want to get an idea of who you are, and make sure that #1, you're not suicidal, where weight loss surgery will push you off the deep end. And then they want to get an idea of your food issues; how you eat, when, why, etc. At the end of my session, she said that I was an excellent candidate for the gastric bypass. Because I tend to graze throughout the day, bypass seemed to be a better choice. With the band, they want you to have only three meals a day. Though her recommendation was bypass, she said that I would also be okay with the band, and she wouldn't absolutely say that it wasn't an option.....if that's the way I wanted to go. I'm guessing that all psych evaluations run a little differently, but that's how mine went.

I would say that most ALL of us run to food out of boredom, emotion, etc., and the shrinks expect to hear it. But they will advise you on lifestyle changes, and what it will take on your part to work with the band. We all didn't get here because we simply love food & eat only when we are hungry. I would find it difficult to believe that any bariatric surgeon, or his staff, would think otherwise. But it's up to us to work on our heads, getting any and all support we need along the way.

Good luck!

My psych eval wasn't too bad. There were 2 tests. One of them was a 384 question "fill in the bubble" type test which was basically just to determine personality type, tendencies toward drug/alchol addictions, suicidal thoughts, and whether or not there is a strong support system. The second one was to determine eating habits. There was also an interview with the psychologist which lasted about an hour or so. They basically want to know that you have a good support system and that you understand what you're getting yourself into. He took the information I gave him and made suggestions on how to be as successful as I can possibly be. I actually found it to be an enlightening and helpful experience :)

I thought my psych evaluation was weak also. they were more concerned about what my expectations were for surgery and to make sure I never had eating disorder .

Mine was a joke. I told him my brother was bipolar and I haven't spoken to my mother in 3 years. He never questioned either one. He coached me on why I wanted surgery. "To be healthy" not "to look good" like he told me what he wanted to say. Straight joke!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
