So, today, I tried a chewy piece of meat. Chewed the hell out of it. Well, it wasn't 15 seconds, and I felt it in my chest. First time since being banded (1 month) something didn't go down...came back up. That was 4 hours ago. Still feel a little backed up, when drinking. What's the scoop. I know I screwed up, but is this feeling going to pass?

What should be my plan of action?

Oh wow I'm so sorry. I've never been stuck either 16 days post. Do you have a fill on your band. ?

No. I am going in on Monday. I know it is gross, but the meat looked really chewed, it just was like compacted together. I don't know if the feeling now is soreness or if something is still in there.

Chewing isn't a timing thing, it's more of a consistency thing. It's got to be like mush before you even think about swallowing that bite. Then it's timing minute before swallowing the next bite. If you follow the rules you won't get stuck unless you find a food you can't tolerate at all.

So will this feeling pass? How long can I expect?

The stuck feeling will go away pretty soon for me, but if there is still something in there... Walking really helps to get it moving, if that doesn't work I will drink Water. It will either flush out or come up. Drinking Water will let you know if anything is stuck because you can feel your esophagus fill with water.

The feeling is really dependant on you and how irritated your upper banded area is.

I hate to tell you this but I was stuck on broccoli for 5 hrs one night until someone told me to take a sip of Sprite and sure enough the fizz brought everything up. You might just be irritated in there from PB'ing (producting burping) which is normal. You should take it easy for the next 24 hrs, like liquids. Try sipping on some hot tea or coffee, that always helped me. Sorry you got stuck. I've had plenty of those episodes.

I haven't heard about the sprite thing! It makes sense though. BTW broccoli and fresh cauliflower are my mortal enemies!

Drinking something warm really works. I usually try to "relax" the area in the mornings with mint tea. I have a tight band in the mornings and cannot eat much of anything for at least 2-3 hours after waking.

Thank you. There isn't any coming up, at all when trying to upchuck! Guess all went through. Water still sits pretty heavy. I guess I just irritated it? Kinda worried!

My doctors offic told me that pineapple juice works with stuck episodes. Something about the enzymes breaking down the food. Just try sipping a little bit and see if that helps?? Good luck.

Wow, I am usually good in a couple hours. I don't know what to say past what I have told you already.

It's times like this that really makes you take a step back and say "those rules are there for a reason." It's the meals where I am extremely hungry or got something too hot and instincts over training prevails, I end up not chewing and getting stuck.... The key is to just calm down and slowly refuel yourself not do a NASCAR pitstop style meal and get is done in 34 seconds.

Have you tried tea or broth yet? I found that they went down even if the shakes wouldn't.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
