Recommended Posts

Peppermint!!!! I drank peppermint tea and it worked wonders, also walking about swinging my arms lol not sure you need the arm swinging but it kinda made me feel better :)

I'm in the April club also, banded on the 8th, I'm in the uk and I know no one who has had the band, so I'm stalking all of you lol

How is everyone who was banded in April doing? I was banded April 5th and it does get better every day! I am excited that I am finally able to lay on my side for a little while in the morning. I can't wait until I can sleep on my side all night. I am not a happy back sleeper! I am having a hard time with low carb mushy foods. Canned foods like chili and Soup are so high in sodium that I find I do not lose weight on days that I eat those. I went back to liquid diet for a day and yesterday I incorporated 1/2 cup of fat-free refried Beans with 2% cheese and a little sour cream and I was down this morning. :) Hooray for beans! Sorry family! LOL I have lost 23.4 pounds since March 25th when I started my pre-op diet. Since surgery I have lost 8 pounds. I am so excited about this journey. I think that being a self-pay patient really helps keep me focused on why I did this. I still have the food demons in my head but my bill for surgery keeps me accountable! LOL

I was banded on 4/11/13 and finally woke up this morning feeling pretty good despite coming down with a dbl. ear infection and bronchitis. I am following my surgeons rules to the letter and refuse to vary from it. I still have another week on Clear Liquids, then move to 2 weeks of pureed full liquids, then two weeks of Soft foods (everyone here calls them Mushies I think). I wasn't given a pre-op diet of any sort which surprised and worried me a bit because it seems that most everyone on this site has had one. So far as of yesterdays visit to my pcp due to not feeling good with the bronchitis, I am down a total of 21 pounds and loving life. I know that it may go up once I start the different stages of foods but that is okay because it will come back off.

I's sorry you are having trouble laying on your side to sleep for long periods. With me, I am a side sleeper too and luckily, that is the position most comfy for me since coming home from the hospital. I used to hurt to lay on my back and felt like my insides were stretching too much.

For some reason, I have been really into cooking new things for my hubby for dinner (really weird since I didn't cook much before surgery....lol) and my new passion over all has been looking up recipes and modifying things so that I will be able to enjoy them along with the hubby once I can eat regular foods. Hubby has voiced that he needs to get healthy as well as me so that was my key to having him eat the same foods as I will be...just more of than me. :D

I used to really struggle with the food demons (head hunger) also.....but since getting my band, that has almost gone away completely. I really wish I would have done this a few years ago!!! Good luck to you!!!!! :)

My nutritionist told me gas x. I said to myself the gas in not in my digestional track so that's just dumb to think. So I suffer. Don't get me wrong my gas was not pain. It truly was discomfort. Then I'm tellin my sister (a nurse) how dumb the nutritionist is about the gas x. Then she tells me the gas x will absorb into the body like any other medication. So I try it.........relief!

I had my surgery yesterday. My tongue has a numb spot on it - left side tip and a little bit up from there. Has anyone experienced this?

I was banded on April 18th. I spent day one and part of day two in the hospital, for observation reasons due to asthma and sleep apnea. My recovery, while in the hospital, went well however, upon my return home I felt as though I began to have a setback. On day three I was barely able to drink or eat anything. I'm not sure if it was the pain from the gas in my chest and shoulders or the overall pain from the surgery, but eventually after showering and moving around a bit more I was able to eat a whole Jello snack. I think the most intriguing change for me so far has been discovering and getting used to my new "full". Today is my fourth day and I feel good enough to get some light housekeeping done. I'm totally excited about my future and I can't wait to get over this recovery period so I can begin working out. I already feel as if I have more energy than before getting banded. Good luck and congratulations to anyone else that may be waiting to have the surgery, or recovering from it!

I am supposed to have my surgery on 4/25! However, I just got a call that my EKG was "moderately abnormal." I have an appt with a cardiologist in the morning. My nurse sounded hopeful that this would be resolved with a normal EKG and we could proceed on Thursday. I'm nervous, excited and REALLY hoping I haven't been on this liquid diet all for nothing!

Hi Bandsters!

I was banded on April 11. I was supposed to be outpatient but my stomach spasmed so bad that I had to do a 23 hour stay. I'm on full liquids this week and pureed next. I'm thinking I'm not going to get my first fill for several months because my stomach is still very sore and spasm-ee. Are you guys still sore?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
