No protein! What to do?

Recommended Posts

Hi I am 4 days post op of my lap band being replaced and I haven't been in the mood for anything but Water and swiss miss hot chocolate with skim milk. I dont like any Protein Shakes or powder, they make me throw up! The only shakes I can tolerate are the special K shakes but i have been in pain n so weak all i want is water. This is a bad thing right? I take the chewable Multivitamins but thats it

How about Protein Water mix? It helps getting in those extra calories during those days too.

I got Kellogg's Special K Protein Water mix. - pink lemonade.. It's not terrible

Mix Protein in sugar free Jello pudding. That is all i for first 2 or 3 days. I really didn't want anything but i choked it down once or twice a day.

To be honest I have not had one Protein drink since preop, had to do a month of Optifast, they make me gag and I hate the taste. I never have used Protein powders, I get all my protein from food. I wasn't too fussy whilst on the liquid stage, I just made sure I stayed hydrated and started taking a liquid Multivitamin till I could take tablets. Once I got onto the mushie stage then solids then I concentrated on the right protein amounts.

As advised by my nutritionist and surgeon I am to eat my protein not drink it. I've had hair loss but that is a normal process for some with big weightlosss, that only lasted about six weeks and not due to lack of protein but a normal thing that often occurs with big changes to the body.

I religiously take a Multivitamin every day and every meal I have protein and either salad or vegetables sometimes carbs.

Add cottage cheese to your Soups and throw it all in the blender, adds a nice taste and you get some Protein in. When I got my band, I couldn't do the protein powder/drinks either, they weren't too concerned for the first few weeks until I could eat my protein again...........went back to Optifast for a Meal Replacement post op.

The most important thing right now is to stay hydrated. Just make sure that you are getting enough fluids. SF Popcicles, Water, etc will hold you over. I relied on cream of wheat, cream of chicken Soup (blended) Tomato Soup for the first week, then my appetite kicked in a bit. Call your doctor if you feel like you're not progressing as you should.

Since u have schwack, u most likely have Despina? Give her a call or shoot her an email.. She can help u and maybe give u practical ideas for this stage on how to mask it!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
