Gallbladder attack?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for 8 months and been pretty successful. I have lost about 50lbs and am at 5.3 cc. I began having excruciating pain in my abdomen yesterday. I thought it was gas but soon realized it was something worse. It is up under my right ribcage. I have had this pain in the past, but it was never serious. It was so bad last night that all I could do was lay with a heating pad. I still had the pain this morning. Someone suggested ginger tea. I drank it on and off today. Soon after I would drink it, it felt better. After a while it would hurt again. I will go to the dr, but I am leaving on a cruise this Thursday! I know there is no way I will be seen by the doctor by Wednesday afternoon. I guess my question is who has had gallbladder issues after surgery, and what was the outcome? Does anything help so that you don't have to have surgery?

I was told before my surgery, that if i had a gallebladder it would need to come out either before or during my banding. I had mine removed years ago, so this didn't apply to me.. Though, I think I remember him saying people usually have issues with it, thats why they just remove it.

Just my opinion, but there's no way I'd get on a cruise ship without seeing a doctor first. The last thing you need is for something to go horribly wrong when you're thousands of miles from home and stuck out at sea. It's just not worth the risk.

the pain is terrible, i'd recommend going to the ER if you have insurance... they'll be able to figure out right away what it is... I just had to call 911 for my grandmother a few weeks ago for a severe gallbladder attack.. don't take it lightly and don't get on that cruise until you figure it out!!

Sounds very much like a gallbladder attack. I had mine out in dec 2011. The sooner you get it out, the better you will feel.

I swore I was having a heart attack when I had a gallbladder attack. If you can't go to your doctor you should go to an ER.. If your passing gallstones they can get stuck in your pancreas (like mine did) resulting in pancreatitis (horrible) or possibly even damage to the ducts of your pancreas.

Minor to fix but not something to take lightly

I would say go to the ER also and let them do an ultra sound or ct scan. If it is your gallbladder you need to get it out. You can always go on a cruise. How would you even be able to enjoy eating on a cruise with a bad gallbladder. I had mine out in December and after living off of soy shakes for about a month I was more then happy to get it out and was up and around the next day with no issues. Take care of it. It's more important then a cruise.

I'm same as you 8 mos out and my first 6 mos were awful due to gallstones/gallbladder issues but my surgeon didn't know it at the time. my pain was in my back and I was nauseated and vomiting all of the time, living on nausea meds and pain meds constantly. Dec 3rd I had mine taken out and thank goodness I did as when he got in there it was so diseased what should have taken 45 mins surgery took 3 hrs and I ended up with a drainage tube in my abdomen and staying over night in the hospital. Not something you want to put off and certainly not something you want to head out to sea and have an emergency have Coast Guard come and take you off and head to a foreign country for surgery. Yes call your dr to see if you can get in if not go to ER asap. I feel 100% better now.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
