Not losing weight question - Have I Reached My Set Point ?

Recommended Posts

Hey Dude, I was just thinking of you last night and wondering how you were doing.

I was thinking that your brother probably doesn't count calories b/c he is in the green zone, you are probably not there yet and it would probably be wise if you did count the calories for awhile. Remember Proteins first, that's what keeps you satisfied longer.

Glad you've seen the light and realized that ice cream and sliders aren't going to get you where you want to be.

That's why it is important to count calories, if you have calories left over and can afford a little something, that's ok.

You're def getting more exercise than me.lol

If all else fails, see a nutritionist, but go with your food list so they can determine whats going on.

Your fill will probably help a lot too.

You'll get there.

Check in more often, so we don't have to wonder about you.

Best of Luck!

Great advice and thank you again for your input. I'll try to check in more often...as I know it does help.

P.S. Does weight loss come in spurts? The reason being...as I've studied the topic of "SET POINTS" and once you break your set point barrier....all of a sudden you can lose like 10-15lbs in a week. I noticed that when my brother lost....he could lose it in spurts...and was wondering if if I'm hitting a wall because I haven't busted through my current "set point"

Thoughts?

You can read more about "Set Points" below. Was able to find a nice thread that talked about this in 2007. Interesting read....

sounds like you are doing okay.......sometimes the scale doesnt move as fast as you want it too but that does not mean your surgery and your excellent eating habits are in vain...look at the big picture....with you exercising and eating better, are you feeling better? are your clothes looser? i mean those are wonderful signs that the band is working...

stop comparing to your brother. that is him and you are you. you will not lose like me or your brother or elvis. you will lose as yourself..so leave the comparison shopping for the grocery stores.

eat good foods in your allotted amounts

eat lean Proteins, veggies and fruit and drink alot and exercise and your health and life will be the better for it.

as for what cals you need or dont need, ask a nutritionist as they can advise you better than anyone on this forum. but what i do know is that if you take in more calories than you burn off, you will gain or *not lose*

wishing you all the best MD as always

and those are my thoughts/opinions

I read this thread and everyone's idea's were interesting, but no one offered any scientific data to back up the theory.

In the past I have read things about the hypothalamus (brains thermastat) . What I read was by avoiding white sugar and white flour can reset the thermastat to increase your fat burning metabolism.

You're encourage to eat whole grains and very, very little sugars.

I believe this to be true and believe the healthcare professionals have jumped on this theory.

So eating whole foods is the way to go.

Any ways that's what I know and my opinion.

BTW, that is what I'm doing and it seems to be working. I know the band living is to allow you to eat whatever, just less of it. But eating totally healthy is working for me now, so thats what I'm doing. Maybe after I hit green zone, I can add somethings back, but until then, no thank you.

MD... you ask for advice and then respond you are doing OK... Make up your mind and let us know when you seriously want us to chime in. Otherwise, it is waste of our time to post and yours to read!

IMHO!

I"m wondering if being at 50% [2cc's in a 4cc band] fill capacity will make a big difference than where I'm currently at === 35% [1.4cc in a 4cc band].

Thoughts?

It did for me. I also had a 4 cc band.

One of the most important things for me has been emphasizing solid food. Even so-called healthy soft foods (like yogurt, cottage cheese, tofu, some fish, Beans, etc) get a low scale on the satiety scale.< /p>

See, the idea of the band allowing us to eat whatever is a tricky one in my mind. Eating whatever doesn't serve any of my long term health goals, quite aside from my weight. I saw a nearly miraculous improvement in my cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood sugar, A1C and blood pressure at only 3 months post-op, and my blood tests looked fantastic until I was around 17 months post-op, at which point they went bad again - not to my pre-op levels, but no good, either. The ony thing that had changed in that time was that I had discovered I could eat whatever (in small amounts, but indiscriminately) and not gain weight.

That makes a lot of sense Jean. Thanks for the heads up. Lab reports don't lie!

Sounds like a good article to me

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
