Fiber please!

Recommended Posts

I need some help and ideas to get some more Fiber in my diet. My Dr. is very strict about Protein, protein, protein and to stay under 20 gr of carbs per day. My problem is I am stopped up frequently. :help: I take Milk of Magnesia occasionally, but I would rather go the natural way. Does anyone have any lo carb/ high fiber food ideas??

Have you tried Benefiber? It dissolves completely in drinks and soft foods

4g of carbs per tablespoon. Hope this helps you.

An Apple a day keeps me regular. Celery is a good souce of fiber as well. If you can't eat the apple raw then you can stew it and eat it that way. You still get the same benefits.

My family has always pushed the Uncle Sam Cereal. It is bran flakes with flax seeds. I'm not banded yet, but do you think the flax seeds would go down ok? You can't really chew them, only break them up a bit with your teeth.

:scared: I'm curious.....how do you get shredded wheat and Fiber One down without using milk or Water? I love both of them even preband, but can't imagine eating them without some form of liquid.

What's wrong with eating them with milk? Are you thinking about the not drinking with meals thing? If so, just consider the milk as part of the meal in this case. 1/2 C of Fiber One and 1/2 C of skim milk is only 100 calories. So I don't really count this as a meal. I count it as my daily dose of get up and go! hehe You can also put Fiber One in yogurt or on top of salads. Yummy.

Yup....that's exactly what I was thinking. I'll have to double check my list from the dietician, but I'm pretty sure they said no cereal with milk. Surgeons can vary as we know. I could very well do on 1/2 c of milk with a fiber cereal. The Fiber One on yogurt does sound very good. :hungry: I just told my husband when we were banded, we weren't allowed to eat cereal. He didn't like that too well since we are both fans of the stuff. :scared:

Thanks for the info. :biggrin1:

I take a big bowl of «green» Soup everyday: just put all sorts of vegetables and greens (carrots, turnip, zuchinni, squash/pumpkin, celery, onions, cauli flower, broccoli, spinach leaves, aubergine, whatever there's in the fridge) in a pan and let it boil. Put it in the mixer and turn it into a creamy pulp, add a little olive oil (one or 2 spoons are enough just for flavour's sake) and that's it! :clap2:

It tastes really good, specially on those cold winter days and with time you'll learn to make some fantastic combinations with all sorts of vegetables. It's very nutritious (lots of Vitamins, minerals) and lots of FIBRE!

I even bring it with me to the office and eat it at lunch time or late in the afternoon (very helpful to make you feel quite full...).

I find a good glass of orange juice or grapefuit also very helpful as far as fibre is concerned.

hope this will work well for you!

My doc recommended Benefiber. I used it for quite some time, but still had problems. Then a friend suggested ground flax seed. I add it to about everything I eat, cereal, meats, everything. It seems to work well and it helps lower cholesterol and is heart healthy.

I, too am a cereal lover. I make a warm flax cereal using ground up flax seeds (use a coffee grinder), splenda, cinnamon, vanilla, and enough Water to liquefy. Heat in the microwave for about 90 sec. If you can afford the calories, a little half and half makes it wonderful.

Being a long time low-carber, I take Super colon cleanse by Health Plus. You can get capsules or powder. DO NOT take it the way it says... you will explode. Take two a day (or whatever the equivilant powder dose is) and you will be regular with no gas, or other yucky side effects.

You can get it from vitaminshoppe.com or from healthplus.com

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
