Back from the Hospital-Lost my band

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm back at home now recovering from band removal yesterday afternoon. Dr. Kuri was not able to fix the slip - he had to take it out completely. I guess there were too many adhesions around my stomach to successfull replace the band.

I can't tell tell you how sad I am - I guess I'm in mourning. I just don't know how I'm going to make it without my best friend. She kept me in check every day and helped me to make good choices. She spanked my hand when I made poor choices and I learned a great deal from her.

I can't believe she's gone...

Back to sleep for me-I'm getting emotional again.

Love ya,

Poor Baby! Im really so very sorry for you. I bet we all are... I can't imagine how hard it is for you. Did he say what caused it?? Did he say whether there were other forms of WLS you could try?

It's perfectly ok to be sad and to mourn the loss... it IS a lot like a best friend... you should feel free to baby yourself as much as you want but then get right back on the horse!

I'm so sorry Shanna. I would feel just as devastated, I know I would. Heal up and feel better soon. Did Dr Kuri say you could get another band down the road? just not right now? Dr Kuri is my doc too. I'm hoping you are happy with how he took care of you. Would you PM me with the cost of your surgery this time, just in case this happens to me? I'd love to know, if you don't mind. Whenever you feel like discussing it. Take your time. (((hugs)))

Sorry to hear about your band Shanna. Mine slipped and the had to remove it, put they replaced it at the same time with a new one. Maybe they will be able to give you a new one.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had to have your band removed. I know one lady on the OH site had her originally removed and just had another put in. I know there was some time in between, but cannot recall how long. Maybe after your body has healed they can reband you?

awe Shanna ~ ((((hugs)))) I wish there was something that would/could make this better.

Fortunately you are way ahead of the game. Youve lost a whopping amount of weight - something that may have been impossible without the band. That's worthy of praise!

What a wonderful support group you will find among the other LBT Bandless members.

Im sure, there will be many more to join your new group. :ban: just leave the light on for us.

Shanna,

I'm sorry to hear that happened. Can I ask you a question, what were your symptoms from the slippage? I was banded since May 2001, but I have had difficulty with my band, too much acid reflux, bad burning sensation in my stomache. How much did you pay to remove it? Please email me at mpena8@aol.com.

Thanks,

mayra

Hi Shanna,

I am so sorry that this happened to you. I am a newbie and I worry about this stuff, I am very glad that I got the band but do you mind if I asked you what made it slip and how did you know? I am four weeks post op as of last Saturday and I helped my husband move something that day and after that I had a sharp burning pain in my side near the place where the port is I think and it has finally stopped after 3 days. This is the fourth day and it barely hurts now. But it really scared me that maybe I tore something lose. Is it normal to get lots of adhesions from the surgery?

Anyhow I will be going back in 2-3 weeks for my first fill and have it checked. Can they see it from the xray?

Thanks and again so sorry that you don't have yours anymore.

Sincerely,

Diane

I was banded Sept. 2005, and I haven't lost any weight. I live on pure fluids because I can't eat any solids. I am having fainting spells and blood pressure problems. I weigh 190, and have a BMI of 35. It hasn't changed since my procedure. I suffer from heart palpitations, and choke on yogart. I can't cheat, because I can't eat anything and haven't been able to for months. I have released all fluids from the band. I am scared for my life.

Please let me know if anyone has any answers. My doctor was Dr. Joya in Mexico and seemed to be very good. He is also confused about my condition and has never had a patient with my symptoms. I believe I'm suffering from third spacing, and early and late dumping syndrome where food goes straight to the small intenstine without being processed in the stomach. The small intenstine counteracts by storing Water to liquify the unprocessed food. I have to pull over when I'm driving due to the fainting spells. I am very saddened by the price I'm having to pay and no weight loss. I believe something else may be wrong.

Dumping syndrom is common after Gastric bypass, but not lapband. But it seems to match perfectly. I am living on 200-500 calories a day. How is this possible?

Please Help...

:help:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
