Banded In Blackfoot June 2012

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum. I had a band placed in Blackfoot in June. I'm an RN working at the hospital and I have watched my Dr place bands for almost 3years and decided it was for me. I've seen lots of positive outcomes and a couple negative outcomes. Wanting to chat.

Hi bigwade, I am scheduled to have surgery Dec. 17th in Blackfoot by Dr. Davis. I would love to hear your experience.

What sort of negative outcomes? Patient compliance related or band related?

The best advice is to follow Dr Davis instructions to perfection, especially liver shrink and six week post op diet. U are vulnerable those first five to six weeks with the inflammation that happens with surgery. The hunger subsides with determination. This really is a big deal but has lower risk with compliance. Kathy will be ur best friend in helping u figure out what diet is best for u. And my last piece of advice is get addicted to working out. Not only for weight loss but mental health through this life change ur about to make. I wish u luck and hope the best.

I have seen both but the band problems that I have seen have been related to the older realize band with port problems. Not saying there bad just my Dr decided to quit using them due to difficulties that were trending. Pt compliance is huge. I have seen slipped bands and talked with Pts and it all seems to come down to eating compliance. Don't drink 30 min before and 45-60 min after eating. That will defiantly cause stretching if not slippage. I have watched my Dr perform this surgery for three years now and I would not have had it done if I did not think it was safe. I work in a hospital I don't want to be there any more than I have to be. Good luck with ur experience!

Hi Wade,

I had my surgery as planned in Blackfoot. I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful experience it was. Everyone was very nice and attentive. The massage was wonderful for the pain in my shoulder. Couldn't have gone better. Lost 20 lbs so far. First fill on the 5th of February. Hope that goes smooth. How are you doing?
